. >>> an hour from now a public hearing into the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion gets under way in washington. christin ayers is in our san francisco newsroom checking the witness list for us. good morning. >> reporter: in an hour we are going to start hearing sworn testimony first from pg&e engineers about that deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. in a rare public hearing in the nation's capital, it's expected it last three days. the september 9 blast killed 8 people and destroyed 38 homes. to date, 8 pg&e officials will face federal investigators and answer questions about the blast, the bad pipelines and whether the utility company should have known it posed a potentially deadly danger. the hearing is part of the national transportation safety board's full scale investigation into the disaster and today, the ntsb is expected to also release thousands of pages of documents relating to their investigation. so it's going to be very interesting to see what those documents say about the blast. it is unusual for the ntsb to hold a public hearing over a pipeline explosion. they say the
