live in san carlos, allie rasmus, ktvu fox two news. all right thank you, allie. ancisco supervisor are now on opposite sides of a plan to help get drug users off the streets. now there was a push to open what's called a wellness center near the hall of justice supervisor matt dorsey represents that neighborhood and originally supported the idea. he says at first, six sites in six different neighborhoods were going to have wellness hubs. now there's just one. the original plan called for supervised drug consumption, but the city attorney said that would violate federal law. now, dorsey has changed his mind. when i signed up for this, the idea was that wellness hub was going to be a safe consumption site. now, dorsey wants the money diverted to help incarcerated drug users through jail health services supervisor hillary ronen says the change is a political ploy and adds that the wellness center can still help drug users even if they don't have space for supervised drug use. what we can do is we can fund all the other services that wellness centers provide counseling

we begin with breaking news out of san carlos, a robbery suspect shot by home depot security after a fight. san mateo county sheriff deputies say it happened last night around 10:00. they say a security guard at the san carlos home depot confronted suspect jonathan mackey, who they thought was shoplifting. it turned into a fight. during the fight, sheriff's deputies say mackey got a hold of the security guard's baton, hit the guard on the head with it, and they say he threw it into a glass window. the guard then fired two shots. one of them hit the suspect. a sheriff's deputy just happened to be nearby, heard the shots. once he arrived on scene, he called in help. paramedics took the guard and mackey to the hospital. they are both expected to survive. officers arrested mackey. san mateo county sheriff's office is still investigating. our marianne favro is investigating more on the story and joins us with a full report in our afternoon newscast. >>> our other to be story this morning, in the last hour and a half, the san jose city council met in closed session for an update on the loom

well a family from san carlos is in maui right now. marine cedric spoke with us earlier today and said it was only after she arrived there on the island that she realized those wildfires were out of control. we didn't find out until we saw it. so once we got our rental car, we started driving into lahaina, kaanapali area and we just saw the wind speeds. i mean, the wind speeds were insanely high. tree branches had fallen. we're seeing power lines onto the ground on this one inlet lane into the lahaina and kaanapali and all of a sudden we see huge plume of smoke. and so we're just saying this doesn't look safe at all. and satellite images show the fires, how they grew so quickly yesterday. take a look at this. this is time lapse video from the cooperative institute for research in the atmosphere. the scope of the damage, though, here not yet clear. be sure to stay with us, though, right here on ktvu on air and online for the latest on the fires on maui. we'll have more coverage throughout the evening. and you can always find the very la

this happened outside the front entrance of i home depot store around 10:00 last night in san carlos. deputies say a security guard confronted the suspected shoplifter and police say the suspect grabbed the guard's baton. >> at some point during the fight, the suspect was able to disarm the security guard of his baton. the suspect then struck the security guard in the face and head area with the baton. the security guard then discharged his firearm, shooting two rounds. one struck the suspect. >> that suspect, 26-year-old jonathan mackay, was treated at the hospital and arrested, accused of assault with a deadly weapon and robbery. this isn't the first shooting involving a bay area home depot security guard. in april, home depot guard blake mohs was shot and killed after confronting an alleged shoplifter at the pleasanton store. >>> looks like the strike is on. the san jose city council met today to discuss the looming strike of thousands of city workers. about 4,500 city workers plan to strike next tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. workers from the airport, libraries, the planning de
