we raised our to native san franciscan daughters here and there almost out of college. we are excited to be well treated in this community. i have them pro bono work as an architect and my work is without portfolio, so when something comes up, i am able to address it and i would like to speak about barricades' on broadway in the evening hours on fridays and saturdays. many things have been tried, blocking off the roads from all vehicular traffic, but it creates a problem because the parking lots are vacant. without someone in controlling the parking lots, a lot of nefarious activity occurs and was what was ordinarily a police have the area. we tried keeping people from going up the hills and circling around and we had another idea to put a barricade on the middle of the block between broadway so that traffic coming from columbus avenue can't go all the way through. you can go in as far as the barricade hist to keep people from trying to get around and the parking lot could stay open so attendants can monitor the activity and club owners can enjoy the parking the need fo

[applause] that is wonderful data for san franciscans because guess what? for quite some years now, it has been deficit, deficit, deficit, no increase, revenues going down, all the bad news that have been shared year after year with our department heads and all of you know how wonderfully- negative the discussion has been and now we see some positive light. i stand before you a year in office to say that san francisco -- economic recovery is real and underway and the economic policies and the strategies we pursued are working and they're working well. our city could not do this without the partnerships of many of you who are here today. san francisco is back on track we must stay the course. what i mean is even though our revenues have surged from the economic growth that our tech companies have provided and traditional companies who have been here for so many years, let me do this. i know that i have been known as the tech mayor and i want to share that with the board and officials but i also want to say one of the reasons i come here so enthusiastically t

as san franciscans, i'm sure you are aware of many of leader pelosi's accomplishments. i will not keep us here all morning in emerging them, but i want to hit a few highlights. elected to congress in 1987, she became the first female speaker of the house in 2007. i do not think many of us will forget the image of her surrounded by all those children as she walked. burger quarter century of service, leader policy led the fight to convert the presidio to a park, ensured over three and half million dollars -- excuse me, billion dollars in relief to the city of san francisco after the loma credo earthquake. in 2010, led congress in appealing the military don't ask, don't tell policy. while she has been exceptionally busy in washington, she has not lost focus on those of us back in san francisco and has fought for the redevelopment of both the hunters point shipyard and treasure island and has been a dedicated volunteer to the growth in golden gate park. as a mother of five and grandmother of eight, she frequently visits golden gate park. at the ceremony on the 21st, brought

discrimination and the resulting lack of health insurance coverage has driven many transgendered san franciscans to seek needed medical care from healthy san francisco. with the passage of this resolution, hopefully in the near future, it will be provided. cigna began research has shown that the provision of this much needed care will result in reductions in suicide alex, substance abuse, hiv infection, mental health problems, and will contribute to the improvement in the socio- economic status of transgendered people. reducing social costs for everyone, ultimately. i think the board of supervisors for passing this resolution and helping bring my transgendered sisters and brothers back into the fold of a compassionate and civil society. thank you. my name is susan loftus, a native san franciscan and mother of three. s serve as a prosecutor in san francisco and the domestic violence unit. there is one thing i really want to convey. i think something is really at stake in this conversation. i have watched it on mine and sat in the hearings. we have made tremendous progress with the criminal justice community on how we address domestic violence. we've done better at listening to victims and protecting them in the wake of tragedies and done better at healing batterers. no one wants a batterer to continue to batter. but as a misdemeanor and domestic violence prosecutor i have watched men convicted of a misdemeanor push or slap, just because it was not in the papers does not mean we never prosecuted pushes or slaps. we did it because it is domestic violence. i have watched men who pleaded guilty in -- plead guilty in court in their body changes. the moment you stop minimizing it, you can start healing and start getting better. from my experience and what i know about domestic violence, i have never seen

we want to get more companies in san francisco to hire san franciscans. and so we're going to develop initiatives around that. there is a big mismatch in the qualifications of those who are not employed in san francisco versus the jobs the tech community wants to hire and we will job that -- bridge that with job training. we have a plan around that. we think employment will solve a lot of the social ills in san francisco. we're focused on jobs. later this year, sf city will dip its toe in policy initiatives. we're watching closely the proposals that will be coming out of the mayor's office around tax reform. twitter stays in san francisco. it was not a bluff. i am the one who ran to city hall and said, it are going to lose this company if you do not do something. that is how i started the friendship with adlai. i did not know this person at all. -- that is how i started the friendship with ed lee. >> it was surreal for me, maybe you guys to when we were looking at the slides and a survey earlier this morning and it was showing that homelessness and jobs an

the ground was broken to build the war memorial in honor of san franciscans who had served during world war i. in addition to honoring those veterans, the memorial gave a permanent residence to the opera, the symphony, and eventually, the ballet. the war memorial and performing arts center has great historic significance, including housing, the signing ceremony of our united nations charter in 1945. today, we are making history erosity and support of mr. and mrs. stephen bechtel. with a grant of $1.5 million -- [applause] from there foundation and in honoring charlotte and george shultz, we are that much closer to fulfilling the original vision of the war memorial complex, which was to include a moral right in his courtyard. as a small token of our city's appreciation, i am pleased to present to you a certificate of honor. i know it is not worth $1.5 million, but maybe the personality of me added with willie brown comes close. if i may present to you, on behalf of the city, our great certificate of honor and a gracious personal thanks for your contribution. to make painful cuts, so how do we do it in a way that will minimize the impact to every day san franciscans, how can we keep our parks in good conditions? how do we maintain our safety net for public health services, public security services, public safety? all these are critical decision that need to be made. the pension question is something that comes up. the cost of our pension liability will cost the city, especially because of our investments in the market have come down since 2008. we are spending more of our general fund to pay our pension costs. that is a big challenge. it is a long-term problem, but it also has short-term implications. we know right away we are not going to have the enough money as we need to cover our services and pension costs as well. i support efforts to figure out short-term solutions around contributions that workers can make. it is important to work collaborative way, as much as possible with labor, organizations, to come up with solutions. we have to figure out, jobs are at stake. we have to cut positions, services. if we do not resolve the pension issue,

i am not only a native san franciscan, i was also born and raised in san francisco. my parents came from another area and bought their first house about a four-minute walk from another address and about a six-minute walk to the plant. i have been exposed to that aroma, and i think as we move forward and the proposals have been presented here, there are a couple of things i want to stress. as a community, we are not looking for jobs anymore. these people need to make sure that they have a career, especially when the construction industry jobs are very short. i've always tried to remind people that these are temporary jobs. when you think you have made it, then the jobs are cut. i am definitely supporting fact that we should started in the middle school. i am also asking that the consultants go back and if they have not done that, make sure they implement aid internships program -- an internship program. the other thing i would like to echo, as ms. jackson already mentioned, please look at the rate increase in the next year. there are going to be a lot of people who ar
