i am a proud san franciscan -- transplant, but a proud san franciscan, and i think san francisco values are our greatest export. i think the america's cup is a great opportunity to highlight both of those things -- how to make this a great event for all of the attendees, but also a great event for all the people who live near the waterfront and for san franciscans. we do not want to overload our streets with traffic. we want to keep this a livable city as we do this huge event and make -- bring mass numbers of people through. the other is to be an example, and a lot of people have talked about this. every event wants to be the greatest ever. i want this event to be the greatest ever feared with any other city is doing a large sporting event, i wanted to go to san francisco's people plan and say this is where we start. hopefully, we will not be the eggs of live forever. hopefully, this will continue to advance, but we should have that reputation, considering what we all espouse. i think we have a great opportunity to do it here, and i think we are off to a great start in that. the other

everyone does such good work, and we all do it for the greater good of not just san franciscans, but people of the world. san francisco really is a guiding light to many people throughout the country. when i was at the california democratic convention in sacramento this weekend, i remember a time when sanford cisco brought forth -- we were the leaders in the resolutions that brought california forward and brought the rest of the nation forward. so i am really honored to be part of that democratic tradition. i guess the other thing i want to say is i grew up in cleveland, ohio, where i did not really think of myself as a person of color. the only people counted in the sense is as far as i know where african-americans and quarter ricans quarterpuer -- puerto ricans. i was 23 before realized i was not. i thought it was just amazing to be part of this community. to be here, to be honored for the first award from the board of supervisors during this month, during a year when we have our first asian american mayor in san francisco, it is just an amazing thing, so i thank you for everything,

because congress failed to act, the city partnered with local businesses to keep san franciscans working, and we call it jobsnow2. as a result, we have partnered with over 100 businesses and employed over 500 local residents, with 70 of them working in the private sector. today, we are here to announce we still have a lot of financial opportunities for private citizens to participate in the jobsnow2 program and we will continue to help put san franciscans back to work. we would like to increase and focus this jobsnow2 program on local small businesses. local businesses are missing a great opportunity to use this resource to their advantage. this increase of subsidy we are seeing today could help small and medium-sized businesses expand and reduce overhead. jobsnow2 will reimburse employers for the first $5,000 of wages paid to an employee hired from the eligible job seeker pool, which would cover two to three months of wages. a pretty good deal for participating businesses. it reduces the risk of hiring new employees, which would be a big plus for any business, and getting more san franc

san franciscans. last november, development was barely a topic for discussion in districts 6 and 10. it was minor to what it was compared to in the past. we have a planning department that is in the grips of regulatory capture. they do not need to be told what to do. they give developers what they want. we saw all the planning commission but reflect that. the environmental impact report, like so many that have come out of the planning department is incomplete, inaccurate, and it conceals the impact because the goal is to spur profit without a care for the impact on existing communities. what we need is real development that has fewer parking spaces -- is not right on the freeway and does not meet environmental concerns. send this back to the planning commission. thank you.
