as a result, too many san franciscans face eviction without knowing what their full rights are.t's not a housing policy that we want to advance in the city and currently the mayor's office of community development spends over $7.5 million annually on eviction protection tenant outreach and education and short-term rental assistance. but these programs do not provide the full level of scope that so many people need stay in their homes. as i said earlier today, assignment proud to announce that we're investing $5.8 million to fund this program over the next two years to support legal representation for tenants facing eviction. i am a third generation san franciscan who does not live in the city of san francisco. my grandfather was also a veteran, and he drove a city bus for the city of san francisco and could afford to buy a home with my grandmother who was a sales woman at macy's. my father now drives the trolley cars in san francisco, and i, as someone who is the beneficiary of their hard work, was able to go to georgetown using my g.i. bill but can't afford to buy a house in san francisco. so this issue of how to keep san franciscans in san francisco is something that i feel very passionate about, and i'm excited to become a part of the commission to talk about how to create a pathway to ensure that when veterans leave and go fight for their country, that they have a place to truly come home to. i hear that there's also a concern about making sure that commissioners come. i just want to say that i've been hanging out at club v.a. commission for a long time. my good friend, dotty guy used to be a commissioner. so i'm looking forward to hopefully not just being a visitor to the club but actu

but it is also the grassroots energy of every day san franciscans who would not settle for less, that brought us here. four too many years, masonic avenue was a speedway. cutting through the heart of our city. for some of the most storied neighborhoods. for too long, it has been a place for cars and not for people. i want to thank the city and our members for their dedication over the last decade to make masonic avenue a friendlier place for people. in particular, i want to thank the folks at six masonic and some of the members who have been mentioned. their energy under tireless advocacy and years and years of patients have made this day possible. it is also important to honor those who have been injured or worse on this street. in particular, i would also like to mention a man who was hit and killed by a drunk driver on masonic a few blocks from where we stand in 2010. he was 22 when he was killed. he would be 30 years old today if he was still with us. i think of the years of lost life that will never be given back to his family and friends and i particularly think about his mother
