there is a direct economic impact, and then there is the fact that this is what makes san francisco san francisco. technology companies want to be here for a number of reasons, predominantly because the talent is here. the talent is here, predominantly, because it is fun to live here. would love to my home town, this is what -- with love to my home town, this is what makes sense francisco the place. firms are expanding, they want to be here. that is not what is qualified so much as it is impact fall. the mayor, in recent days, has spoken of this topic and the reason to have targeted staff, like we did with local manufacturing. we're going to focus on this in a sort of dedicated way, making the same commitment to night life, which presents its own unique set of challenges and opportunities, to support that industry. we, of course, want to receive input and feedback from the entertainment commission through your office, supervisor, and the night my community, about how best to support the community. we look forward to working through that. city government seems to be working with the well

we want to keep families in san francisco. the performance art that was released said market -- the rate housing has exceeded the goals the general plan has for housing production. shows we're heading in the wrong direction if our mission is to retain families in san francisco. considering market reproduction is not producing housing to affordability levels that will keep this families here. if we do not get our policies in line in order to stem the production of market rate housing and increase the production of affordable housing, lot of this will not matter. if we do not have people who can afford to live here, we do not have parents who can advocate for better education or resources because they cannot afford to stay here. housing should be viewed by our policy makers and the population as a right and not as a commodity which i feel like it has been looked at. in san francisco for a long time. thank you. supervisor farrell:. -- supervisor farrell: thank you. next speaker. >> thank you. i am so pleased the government audit

we have representatives from walk san francisco, the san francisco coalition, members of the local 261 who work hard with us from getting the bond pas sed, san francisco capital planning committee, the office of the city administrator, norman kelly is here, the mayor's office of public finance, the mayor's office of disability, the san francisco planning department, others and all the staff, the public utilities commission. we have been working hard with them to make sure that we support all of the projects and that we will be ready to implement. we're here today to launch the bond program that will make a significant -- that will make significant repairs to our streets and build new streetscapes for many neighborhoods. last week, the board of supervisors unanimously approved the sale of the first round of bonds. we're very happy about that. we're getting ready to start work. i will ask our mayor to come up and say a few words. mayor ed lee. mayor, city college of san francisco, a leading companies in san francisco, and fellow community organizationscompanies are struggling to find talent, particularly in the field of technology. at the same time, there are thousands of talented young adults in the city and more than 5 million across the country looking for the opportunity to build a meaningful career. our students go through five months of intensive training and hard i.t. skills and the increasingly important soft skills of communication and professionalism. this is on by an internship of one of 21 companies, who are represented today. we expect the number of companies to grow because of the leadership we have been city hall. there is a buzz in the city because we have an administration that understands the importance of economic development, and one that understands economic development is still by workforce development. it have to attend both at the same time. it is my honor to introduce a man who knows how to create and the the economic engine, the honorable mayor ed lee.
