a little bit of a chop on the bay water looking out to the san francisco bay and the bay bridge, it's beautiful out there. temperatures off to a cool start this morning. beginning to recover out there. as you can see on the satellite, some changes up to the north, some clouds and even a few light showers approaching the north coast up towards cape mendocino, approaching eureka and the energy will be approaching the bay area by this time tomorrow. not for today. we're expecting a lot of sunshine out there. already, showing u temperatures are in the 60s across the board. it's 64 in santa rosa. san jose, 62. livermore, 65 and oakland downtown checking in at 61. winds are a big factor yesterday. today, not as strong. in fact, you can see the single- digit winds from 2 to 8 miles an hour out towards concord and oakland, out towards sfo with a stronger wind and also towards the bay. winds out of the west, 15 miles an hour. a gust to 20 miles an hour in half moon bay. winds will strengthen throughout the afternoon hours, especially after 3:00, 4:00. for today, we have this. a lot of sunshine

the ship's sinking was one of the deadliest accident ever in san francisco bay. on the morning of august 22, 1888 decades before the golden gate bridge was built the city of chester was leaving san francisco heading north up the coast to eureka. at the same time but larger steamer oceanic was arriving in the bay after a long voyage across the pacific. it was a particularly foggy morning and visibility was poor. after 2:00 a.m. the two ships bought one another but it was too late. but at the last minute they have attempted to reverse engines but the chapter was closed with the oceanic about pierced the port about of the city of chester. and she sunk. and this is the collision point. about 60 people died all aboard the city of chester. from the wreckage was all but forgotten until the no team rediscovered 125 years later. >>: no also said that because the wreckage is so far under water it does not pose a risk to ships or boats on the bay, also there are plans to attempt to salvage a the wreckage or send divers down to the ship. and san francisco charles clifford kro

>>> well, new at 11:00, crews have rediscovered a ship wreck more than a century old in the san francisco bay. in fact, it's right near the golden gate bridge. nbc bay area's krchristie smiths live in san francisco with why it's been hidden for so long. christie? >> reporter: good morning, scott. it was actually about this time of day when the steam ship city of chester named after city in pennsylvania sank ear, way back in 188. now, since then, researchers have had an idea of where it might be. and that's because of the original charts that were taken after the wreck. out a little bit, but about the center of the golden gate bridge. the steam ship was headed to eureka with 90 passengers on board when it was hit by another steamer, the "oceanic" in low visibility and rough conditions. right now, it sits about 216 feet down below the surface. now, the national oceanic and atmospheric administration, they were out doing surveys, including checking the route of the america's cup, and they asked one of their crews to see if they could locate it and they did, with the help of sonar equipment, they

bay bridge, it is beautiful. nice and clear. turning warmer today if san francisco at 52 and oakland is 55 and 49 in redwood city and san jose is 52 and 46 at half moon bay. more sunshine later hours because of the area of high pressure over the pack and as it comes in toward california, it will bring a weak onshore and that is weeking our terms warmer. that is going to be replaced where the trough coming in over the pacific northwest cooling things down for the end of the week. tonight the giants take on the dodgers and it will be breezy this evening at 62 degrees is the starting temperature at 7:15 and well end at 58 and you will need to pack the light sweater. today our highs are going to be in the upper 70's to lower 80's for the bay area and along the peninsula you can expect to see 73 in san mateo and 66 in pacifica and 63 in downtown san francisco and sunny skies and 81 in napa and in the east bay, mild and 75 in oakland and toasty and antioch at 81 degrees and brentwood is 83 and lows tonight are in the lower 50's and my seven-day outlook shows nice and dry

clouding up pretty quickly around the san francisco bay and up in the north bay, as well.o, here's what you can expect when it comes to the showers moving in for tomorrow. as we head throughout the day today, mostly cloudy conditions and hold off on the rain until about 10:00 p.m. tonight. even at that point for the most part to the north of golden gate bridge and then tomorrow morning around 7:00 a.m. for the morning commute. expecting heavy downpours, especially over the santa cruz mountains through the peninsula and san jose getting some pretty decent rainfall and maybe accumulating half an inch of rain and we'll take it, as you know, summer is just around the corner by this point. by noon most of that activity out of here and keep showers in the forecast through 5:00 and then by 10:00 p.m. things start to clear out and good-looking weekend shaping up. temperatures on the cool side, cooler than average, enjoy that because by monday into tuesday of next week, the climb is on and we could be talking about the 90s as of wednesday. i know. so, everything is going to change

the two planes collided over the san francisco bay a mile nor of the brothers island. is live from richmond with the details. reporter: right now this is still a very active search for parts of the plane, and also anyone who was in the plane. let me go ahead and show you, there's a small fleet of search vehicles right now actively in san pablo bay. a combination of police vehicles, fire vehicles, and also it looks like private boaters who are out here trying to find parts of a plane that crashed into the bay, following that mid-air collision. witnesses told rescue crews that it was a cessna and a hawker sea fury, an older model british naval fighter. a pretty old plane. that plane apparently continued on and then landed quite some time later, quite a bit away, over at ion airport. that plane likely sustained some damage but we understand the cessna basically came crashing
