the smoke wants to exit and the exit route from the camp fire is through the san francisco bay area because remember there's a lid of high pressure over top of us. so it can't go up. that would be great if it went up, but it can't, so it's finding some horizontal way to exit. there are three exit routes through the bay area and all three of them right now are blocked. it goes through san francisco bay down to the santa clara valley, topography, mountains on each side. it's like the bottom of a bowl trapped by the mountains. if it goes through the delta and down the 680 corridor, there's livermore for you. it gets tranned in the tri- valley because of our -- trapped in the tri-valley because of topography. the easiest place to go out would be the same place where the fog goes in, the golden gate. right offshore the winds are going the opposite direction. we have an onshore flow which is blocking the flow of smoke out there. so what we have is smoke simply trapped over the bay area with no means of escape. all those blue diamonds are very unhealthy air quality readings from napa south to frem
