in these economic times, it makes sense for cities like san francisco to reach out to places like barcelona. if you look at the history of what has happened between not just the cities of barcelona and san francisco, and the region of catalonia and san francisco, it makes sense. we established a region sister russia shed with the region of catalonia. i want to thank the group freinds of gaspart. the president of the organization could not be here but they have been trying to foster relationships, not just between san francisco and barcelona, but the entire region. the mere talk about the commonalities, the economic ties. there are many other ties. there are works between the museums in barcelona and the de jong. there are talks about the universities in barcelona with ours. sharing production with the our pride in barcelona. there are many examples of that nature. but something that is special to me, as a gay man, and i see my partner in the audience -- is the commitment to civil rights and the very special committee that that barcelona has played to the lgbt community. those of you who wat

san francisco is a large city. so if we adjust this for injuries per capita, we still see san francisco is still showing a lot of pedestrian injuries but not as strongly, now we see that san francisco and berkley have maybe close to 2 times as many pedestrian injuries as san jose or richmond. this does again men t mean that francisco is more dangerous place to walk than san jose or richmond. what we need to do is account for the amount of walking, and this is using census data. we don't do a good job in america keeping track of how much walking occurs. census data asks how you get to work on the long form. it turns out to pretty good measure of walking in the community, but as you can see here there's ten times as much walking in berkley or san francisco as maybe san jose or richmond. so, if we adjust the per capita injury rate for the number of walkers, we see a very different view of the injury rate here in san francisco. actually san francisco and berkley now look quite good. the injury risk per person walking in

i moved here for many of the reasons that i think we're all here in san francisco. we're a city of compehensive immigration refoimmigrants. we know that san francisco was built on the backs of immigrant labor. we also know that for the past 10 years on so, it has been fairly dark nationwide for our immigrant community. we've had a new record number of rates belief had a tremendous backlog of applications of legal immigrants that are trying to become citizens. there have been countless stories of constitutional and civil rights violated of many of our family members and friends. i used to be an immigrant rights attorney. i can tell you firsthand that i would visit the ins detention center and see individuals who had been beaten by ice agents. this conversation cannot be more timely and more important with the new administration and a new recognition and importance of building an immigrants rights movement. hopefully we will soon get healthcare reform behind us. hopefully the next question that our nation grapples with is how do we tell you the constitutional and civil rights that
