we have an incredibly close relationship with the county and city of san francisco. the land or the property on which our museums are located belongs to the city and county of san francisco, and each of the museum buildings, which are on my overhead slide and the handouts we have just distributed also belong to the city and county of san francisco. in fact, the nemuseum of the top of the page was given to the city and county of san francisco, and at that time represented the largest private sector gift of the city to san francisco at $210 million cost was raised entirely and elderly from private sector funds -- and utterly from private sector funds. the fine arts museum employs 562 full-time and part-time persons, of which 349 are san francisco residents. we are very proud of that. since the opening in 2005, the combined you museumuseums hn visited by over 11 million persons. in the calendar year of 2010 with an attendance of over 2 million, 2,043,000 persons, the de young museum was the fourth most visited museum in america, behind the museum of new york and the nati

the san francisco city coalition provide the cleaning services. we use san francisco clean city as our service provider because i have a strong job training and placement program. they train and place about 150 people every year. about 75% of those people that are placed actually retain their jobs for the full year longer or after. that was important to the neighborhood when the community benefit district was forming. the services provided -- every property gets hand swept daily. they get sidewalk scrubbing with a machine twice a month, and power washing once a month. clean city also provides graffiti abatement. the service hot spots in the neighborhood. they also help us with hazardous waste -- needles, human waste, and a large trash items. they do not, unlike other cds -- other cbd's, we do not operate on a dispatch system. in other places, someone would call in. we do not operate that way because it is a large district. we kind of schedule the district to make sure that the cleaning we provide is done uniformly, threat the whole district. -- thr

the city and county of san francisco is san francisco's largest employer and the pattern of health benefits and how the trust fund is covered affects huge numbers of people across the city, especially the eastern districts and district 6. with constituents who work for the city for school districts. citywide, however, we are proud for what we achieved with healthy san francisco, health benefits for hotel workers, health benefits and insurance for city workers. there are three big problems related to fairness and honesty with this legislation, which can be cured by separating out the health services measure. , which affects the governance of the health service trust fund, to allow disclosure and discussion with those affected. we have heard this called the consensus measure. it is not true, in terms of the hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries dependent of health services. it is a multi-employer trust fund and not all employers, school districts were there. certainly, retirees and their dependants were not. rank-and-file members of the unions involved have not voted on this consensus packag

every year, the city budget is one of the most important decision making groups that the city of san francisco makes. decisions that are made about the city's money impact -- the budget is created in three phases. there were few handouts. from march to may, the mayor makes those proposed budgets and creates the entire proposed city budgets making changes along the way. from june through july, we come out to the board of supervisors. they get the mayor's budget into it to make changes. how many of you have been the the city budget? i hope you will all come out during gym because we will meet you there. we are very excited that mayor lee has partnered with supervisors. we all know this is the first time we saw the marriage to a budget town hall. this is the first time we have seen the mayor, right? the city of san francisco has a savings of $261, but some workers cannot afford the increase and fall under the low- income bracket. the city of san francisco will have to pay 100% of health-care costs per person, which would be the whole $300 with no savings to the city. i am here and saying this on behalf of all of us here in san francisco, and we serve all the disabled and all the senior citizens throughout san francisco, and they want to live in their homes with dignity. they deserve that right because they have paid their taxes, work hard to enjoy what they have worked so hard for. also, i heard about the pension plan. home care workers have no pension plan for days off or sick days. i hope you can look into that as well. thank you. luke's as part of our city-wide system of care and supporting san francisco general and san francisco city's health care safety net and to operating the hospital according to the recommendations in the blue ribbon panel. as part of these commitments, we are going to invest $272 million for the construction of the new seismicically-safe and planning to the future of st.'s luke's. and we are committed to contributing amounts to the city to offset potential impacts of transit, pedestrian safety and housing. with that said, the current asks for affordable housing assumes a ratio that would be appropriate to a condo developer, but they are not appropriate for a hospital seeking to provide a community health benefit. we believe the number may be higher than our actual impacts and committed to work with the city to resolve these items. we agree with mayor lee that it is critical to reach a prompt agreement. to that end we will meet with the city staff and mayor and work towards finding common ground for all of these issues. my goal is to have an agreement in place prior to the july 14 inform

i ran for office because i wanted to serve the city and protect all that is so special about san francisco>> what lessons did you learn after campaigning for supervisor? >> san franciscans are incredibly interested in their city government, local politics, and making sure that we remain the most amazing city in the world. i learned that san franciscans during campaign read everything they are sent in the mail. they love to meet the candidates and engage in conversations with them. i learned how important it is to build bridges between different communities, particularly communities of diversity that we have. i was incredibly honored to have been elected in november of 2008. >> where do you place yourself on the political spectrum? >> i consider myself someone who shares the progressive values that many sentences can hold dear. we have been a beacon to the rest of the world region that many sentences skins hold dear. we have been a beacon to the rest of the world for those. >> you are president of the board. describe the role of the opposition and the responsibilities that come with being t

you listening to them. >> speaking of the public here in san francisco, what are some of the biggest issues you feel are facing the public in the city>> today? >> yes. >> well, san francisco is one of the most magical cities i think in this planet and certainly in the united states. it is built with indigenous resources to that help make us that special. our natural environment both by land and by sea and water. and just a wonderful history that we have made us a standout city where i think other cities, which they had some of that aspect we doff. we're also a cost prohibitive city. it's expensive to be here. i think it's extremely important we remain sensitive to strategy and implementation of making sure the city retains its class diversity. there's always a lot of discussion about diversity in terms of culture and race. class diversity is something that shouldn't be subordinate to that discussion. i want to make sure that san francisco has a working class population. i want to make sure we do not take for granted because we are seen as more cosmopolitan, that that excuses us from not tackling issues of poverty, which there are st

public health eliminates or reduces health care services to the indigent population of the city of san francisco. >> president, board of supervisors, as you know, this year we really worked at trying to work with our community-based organizations to identify areas of production to meet the city budget. this year, we focused on the non-leveraged general fund dollars that could not bring in federal dollars. we identified $7 million we do not leverage through a federal matching program and try to cut areas we thought we could do that with those non-matched general funds. through the restoration of the mayor, we were able to restore at least half of the organization's' funding. then we looked at smaller organizations with cuts under $1 million that would have a great affect on smaller organizations. we still have $3.20 million left on the cuts. i am sure you will hear today from those organizations, their concerns about those cuts. i want to reemphasize that the general fund dollars are the unmatched general fund dollars that we cannot match to the federal process. president chiu: thank you. at this

this journey started when i came to san francisco last september. the selection of the city's process. currently, while all of that was going, we knew we had to get ready for an america's cup world series. last september only, the design of the ac 45 was being designed. the factory in new zealao

san francisco upon a per capita basis. so we have a long commitment to that. many of you may know dr. rich katz recently left the city of san francisco to go to los angeles. barbara ga garcia, our new health director, those of you who know barbara know her area of expertise is in community programs, behavioral health, substance abuse, primary care. she was responsible for all of fleems. as deputy director before she took the position. there's no one who knows more than this than barbara. i don't think there's anyone more respected than barbara on this topic. she and many of us in the department have been working closely with the mayor and our community partners around, trying to find the least harmful way to -- if we ultimately have to make cuts, try to do it in the least harmful way possible. still, i think the -- the total of $10 million of cuts in our budget that fall into community programs is something in the neighborhood of 2% of the total money we spend in that area. so we're spending in terms of the funding that go to community programs over $200 million a year and so -- we're looking at about a $10 million c

san francisco and also bay area legal aid. the thing that makes the housing rights committee unique in the city of san francisco is that there are no requirements, no income requirements for anyone to seek our services. the only requirement is that they be a lender. that gives us a huge impact in the city, letting people know what their rights are and being an advocate for them. the benefit of having bay area legal aid next door is that whenever someone needs a lawyer or we need to see someone's -- seek someone's legal advice, we have somebody right there. it is a very efficient system, and i cannot tell you -- every time, every day somebody comes to the clinics that we have put together, and they are amazed that this agency even exists. they always are very thankful and very grateful that there is someplace they can come and know that their grievances, their complaints, their issues will be taken seriously, not just, "you are just a crank" or "you do not understand the law" or something like that. we make sure people understand their rights, make sure they get those rights, and

even better. >> the city of san francisco kicked off an effort including safe spaces for children to re will be an increased police presence in parks in the coming weeks. more patrols will take place in golden gate park. >>> i remember yesterday at this time our chief meteorologist bill martin told us that we would see triple digits and we sure did. >> now this cooling off quickly in the oakland area. the fog is back. live stormtracker 2 shows the fog coming up the coast. that is the south tower of the golden gate bridge. you know what that means, basically fire danger goes down, air quality gets better and the heat advisory goes away. it is just that kind of day. the fog will return this whole week. the fog tomorrow morning ride along the coast. more up towards petaluma. this is the computer model. 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, fog at the coast and in pacifica. the fog will be a player right through this week. the high pressure goes away and this week, low pressure comes in. this is a mechanism that is allowing the fog to enhance itself. this is a classic summer pattern, by the way. it
