to the city and county of san francisco's carbon footprints. therefore, the san francisco department of the environment has brought together two sets of stakeholders to advise the city on building with energy issues. the first is the renewable task force. the second of which, we, the undersigned are members is the energy independence advisory pafpblet as advocacy organizations and businesses connected to the property, buildings and energy industries, we have focused on energy use, particularly natural gas use in buildings, and energy efficiency in green buildings. our main discussion was the need for discussion among stakeholders in the economy, academics, building scientists, tenants, policymakers, and property owners and managers. inceased access to the latest research and information about energy efficiency and green building and the financial benefits would boost the energy efficiency sector through more effective green and social marketing and the creation of a critical mass of awareness. we are committed to working with the city to foster

you listening to them. >> speaking of the public here in san francisco, what are some of the biggest issues you feel are facing the public in the city. >> today? >> yes. >> well, san francisco is one of the most magical cities i think in this planet and certainly in the united states. it is built with indigenous resources to that help make us that special. our natural environment both by land and by sea and water. and just a wonderful history that we have made us a standout city where i think other cities, which they had some of that aspect we doff. we're also a cost prohibitive city. it's expensive to be here. i think it's extremely important we remain sensitive to strategy and implementation of making sure the city retains its class diversity. there's always a lot of discussion about diversity in terms of culture and race. class diversity is something that shouldn't be subordinate to that discussion. i want to make sure that san francisco has a working class population. i want to make sure we do not take for granted because we are seen as more cosmopolitan, that that excuses us from not tackling issues of poverty, which there are

all of that is value added for an employee of the san francisco fire department to serve our diverse cityny of you have advanced or bachelor's degrees. with history majors, sociology, i.t., psychology, civil engineering. all that is impressive and important as you build a team and contribute to the san francisco fire department. to the family and friends of our recruits, thank you very much. it has been a sacrifice for the recruits and family members. it has not been an easy 14 weeks. you will find that there will be missed holidays because they are serving the city. we're so proud to have them. we're thankful to you for your continued support throughout their careers. i will also like to acknowledge the division of training staff. it is challenging and rewarding. it was one of my favorite positions. we're able to impart our knowledge and experience and make our imprint on the new recruits. under the direction of frank costa, they are all to be commended for the work in building the foundation upon which the class will continue to grow. we have many new faces. we had some tiretirements la

working with the city of san francisco, we can do many things. you have noticed all of the vacant shop fronts along market street, i am sure. we can begin to change this. pardon me? anyway, we can change this by making it easier for artists to occupy. working with our sister organization, we can install public artworks. if you look behind you, you will see two of them freshly installed. we can also do what all of us are doing here today. it can mean celebrations. we certainly know how to do that. we can do more. everyone of you here can participate. let's broaden the scope and think about more than just market street. after all, cities have the capability of providing something for everybody when they are created by everybody. let's look beyond the central market corridor and the neighborhood, the community that already lives here. if you go down to the project office, you will see the gateway to the tenderloin. we do not mean to merely decorate our city's main street. that would be superficial. we want to help change lives. . >>> closer to home a vandal attacked san francisco city hall early this morning. several doors and windows all damaged on a building that is nearly a century old. kristy seifkin is in san francisco with more on how police saw the attack in progress and promptly made an arrest. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon to you, frank. the front of city hall has beautiful detailing and last night someone targeted that in an act of vandalism breaking several doors, the glass out of the doors with his bare hands. crews were sweeping and vacuuming up glass this morning after an early-morning attack. around 4:30, city hall security spotted a man draping windows on the main polk street entrance. he used his bare hands and the handle of a knife to breakthrough glass panes on three doors and knock a glass pane out of a street line. >> it appears to be just one person acting on his own. this is a rare occurrence. i don't think it happened since the building re-opened 10 years ago. >> reporter: security responded immediately to the attack and found the perpetrator was heavil

ongoing annual payments for the benefit of other taxing entities, including the san francisco unified school district and city college of san francisco; and adopting findings that the resolution is not a project under the california environmental quality act. supervisor chu: thank you. for this item, we have ever presented it from the redevelopment agency. >> amy lee. i will make this brief because this is more of a procedural issue. we will be back before the board for a more substantive discussion about the actual mechanics of the payment. as you may or may not be aware, the state, in implementing ab 26, called for the dissolution of the agency and temporary suspension of our activities. coupled with that was also ab 27, which permitted cities and counties to bring the agency's back to life, to continue to do redevelopment activities once their funds were paid to the education relief augmentation fund. that amount is under the community remit amount. that needs to be paid some time in the fall. there are two payments in january and in may. there are some procedural things in ab 27 that permits us to have ad

i moved here for many of the reasons that i think we're all here in san francisco. we're a city of compehensive immigration refoimmigrants. we know that san francisco was built on the backs of immigrant labor. we also know that for the past 10 years on so, it has been fairly dark nationwide for our immigrant community. we've had a new record number of rates belief had a tremendous backlog of applications of legal immigrants that are trying to become citizens. there have been countless stories of constitutional and civil rights violated of many of our family members and friends. i used to be an immigrant rights attorney. i can tell you firsthand that i would visit the ins detention center and see individuals who had been beaten by ice agents. this conversation cannot be more timely and more important with the new administration and a new recognition and importance of building an immigrants rights movement. hopefully we will soon get healthcare reform behind us. hopefully the next question that our nation grapples with is how do we tell you the constitutional and civil rights that

[applause] >> thinks ank you. it may be premature, but welcome home fellow burners. it is great. there are invitations going on for that burning man. i am going to call our board president, david chu, to come up here and join us. he plays a mean violin already. i am also going to invite supervisor eric mar, who is the only one of us who has been to burning man. i will say this. the burning man project has been a wonderful contributor to our central market cultural district. working with our office of economic development and the wonderful staff, you are working with the arts commission trying to liven up and insight the arts community -- excite the arts community to look at where we have vacancies and put life into them through art. there is so much to do. art is abou

but i was always interested in sanford cisco in terms of the city, culture, the amazing lgbt community -- i was always interested in san francisco. i am an attorney. i started off in private practice, doing complex litigation. in 2002, i moved to the san francisco city attorney's office, where our work on the trial team, doing trials for the city and doing my own cases and supervising a team of attorneys as well. another huge issue confronting the city is the deferred maintenance on our infrastructure. we have a lot of infrastructure that has been deteriorating because we have not maintained it properly, from our roads to our sewer system to muni. we need to be much more diligent about maintaining our infrastructure. i have been interested in politics since i was a kid. i have worked on campaigns since i was a teenager. i was involved in campaigning against senator jesse helms when i was in college. when i came out here i was not initially involved politically. i was involved in community work, helping to build the lgbt community center, doing neighborhood work, and i eventually started doing campaigns and gradually got more inv

san francisco will get hurt. there is no way to fix that problem without hurting san francisco and every other city and county in the state. the state has been far outspending what it should. it will come home to roost in the next couple of years. >> was talk about the city's economic development and whether we are on the right track. if we are not, let's talk about the right steps to take. >> i think we're on the right track. the key is recognizing it. san francisco decades ago was home to the fantastic manufacturing industry and specialized service industry. we have to think of san francisco 30 years from now and try to prepare ourselves for the new economies. i do think biotech will be a key piece. information technology, can we be the hub of that? we have to address our payroll tax, land use decisions. we have to put in place a conducive atmosphere to attracting those economies. when we do that, it helps with our basic budget. it helps develop jobs. there is a lot we can do to catch the new economy. >> is there anything the city needs to do in changing its current approach to economic development to facilita

reducing toxics in san francisco, whether it is becoming the electric vehicle capital of the u.s., this is where green innovation happens. and we practice what we preach in san francisco. every city of san francisco's department is required to develop a department action plan annually, which inventory their own emissions and sets common action targets for the department. this process engages departments that do not typically considered themselves and are mentally focused and effectively makes the link between in one of the responsibility and the financial bottom line the efficiency. requiring each city department to be responsible for the carbon footprint helps integrate the city's climate work into all levels of organizational functioning and incentivizes all employees to participate in this process. the program that we are going to announce today will help make our individual departments sweet -- more sustainable and help us meet the goals from our climate action plans. additionally, plugging hybrid technology and its electric vehicles represent a good start towards achieving the new fuel efficiency standards that were just announced by president obama, a 54.5 miles to the gall

. >>> one person has been arrested after damaged with windows at san francisco city hall. one side of the building is closed after crews clean up the broken glass. surveillance video captured image of a man breaking the glass on several winds about 4:30 this morning. he is a 38-year-old man who appeared to be very intoxicated. he was arrested and faces charges of vandalism. >> police in daly city are trying to unravel a mystery. they want to determine who stabbed four men. they thought the crime scene is where the victims were found at serra bowl. now, they say the crime may have started in san francisco. all four victims and they say injuries are not life-threatening. police need your help in finding the suspects. >> in the east bay oakland police are investigating three overnight shootings that left one person dead and three others injured. first shooting happened after midnight on 79th avenue. one man was killed there. second shooting happened at a liquor store on crystal boulevard. one person was found shot and windy there had. minutes after that, police were called to
