we basically provide cleaning, beautification, and safety for the neighborhood. the san francisco city coalition provide the cleaning services. we use san francisco clean city as our service provider because i have a strong job training and placement program. they train and place about 150 people every year. about 75% of those people that are placed actually retain their jobs for the full year longer or after. that was important to the neighborhood when the community benefit district was forming. the services provided -- every property gets hand swept daily. they get sidewalk scrubbing with a machine twice a month, and power washing once a month. clean city also provides graffiti abatement. the service hot spots in the neighborhood. they also help us with hazardous waste -- needles, human waste, and a large trash items. they do not, unlike other cds -- other cbd's, we do not operate on a dispatch system. in other places, someone would call in. we do not operate that way because it is a large district. we kind of schedule the district to make sure that the cleaning we provide is done un

i'm interested in a clean city and i'm abhorred by the garbage on the san francisco streets. so i have two things i want to talk about. and the first one is these boxes you just approved without an e.r.a. president chiu: excuse me, ma'am. under the rules of our board, you're not allowed to do public comment on items we've already considered. >> this is about garbage. president chiu: you can talk about garbage. >> i'm talking about garbage that are around current public boxes. president chiu: that's fine. >> i'm just worried that it's going to increase now. and so part of what i'm concerned with is garbage collection, and that is that it's not tied to the property parcel. there's a number of houses that do not even have garbage in the three neighborhoods that i have lived in in san francisco. and when you call the city and you ask if a particular parcel has garbage pickup, they refer you to the garbage company. so it seems to me that it's time to tie garbage pickup to garbage parcel and at least make sure that every parcel and each separate parcel has garbage pickup. you can't

san francisco businesses. san francisco needs to do a better job of cultivating business innovation. we need to be the city that competes with silicon valley to attract clean tech, biotech companies. we can do a better job of nurturing creative industries. we need to create a better economy for our local artists. this is a city that has many thousands of small businesses. as someone who used to run a small business, the city can do a much better job of nurturing that sector. that is part of the life blood of who we are as san franciscans. >> we could do better. are we on the right track? >> i think we are in a transition right now. we have an interim mayor and a new board of supervisors. i do think we have a new tone at city hall to move things forward. we have a lot of challenges we are facing. i am doing everything i can to put us back on track. >> let's talk about the role of sports in the city's economic future. are you happy with the plans for the america's cup? >> i have been a huge fan of the america's cup. i am proud of this board came together unanimously after a fairly contentious debate to support bringing the america's cup to san francisco in 2
