joining us live is patrick hoge from the san francisco examiner who has followed the farrell campaign. patrick, are you surprised this resolution was announced the day before election day and do you think it will have much impact on the outcome? >> it was certainly very jarring this morning when it came to light. i think it is a big development in the race, late breaking news that mark farrell agreed to pay what would be the largest campaign violation fine in history for skirting campaign finance laws. farrell acknowledged in a proposed settlement that would be $108,000 wrongly paying intentions for his campaign with money raised for a committee he raised to support proposition d, a commission cutting measure also on tomorrow's ballot. farrell chocked it up to an accounting error and bad legal advice, called for clearer campaign finance rules and said his campaign terminated their prior legal council. they took a swipe at the ethics commission for disclosing the fine so close to election day. critics had called farrell's prop d campaign committee a slush fund for his mayoral bid and i

san francisco last year. today, prosecutors cross-examined arantza villegas. she was one of the people at the party. so this is separate from that emmy. she was at a party with bob lee. bob lee kamini's sister. kazaa, the night before lee was killed. she testified about nima momeni telling her that he wanted to sue jeremy boivin. it's a friend of his sister, ann lee, who others testified gave kazaa many party drugs that made her sick. then she produced a text message between her and many of him, asking her to write everything down for a possible lawsuit. in that text, she mentioned bob lee. the text came two days after lee was killed and several days before she was arrested for the murder. legal experts say prosecutors want the jury to focus and what isn't in the text. what is curious about this text exchange is that we now know that mr. nima momeni killed bob lee. his story is it was in self-defense. the prosecution said it was premeditated murder, but absent from this text exchange is any mention of what happened between zenni and bob lee. and i think the prosecution is going to say this is someon

jennifer friedenbach says their figure comes from a combination of data from the san francisco office of the chief medical examiner and contributions from various homeless advocacy groups. at this event, homeless advocates say 420 people have died while homeless in san francisco. but that's a figure from 2023. an estimate for 2024 hasn't been released yet, and there have been several factors that have changed since last year that could push that number down. according to this year's point in time count, the number of people living in the streets has dropped by 13%. there's also been a drop in the number of tent encampments at today's rally. advocates passed out a study published in the journal of the american medical association that concluded drug use can be a significant factor in deaths among unhoused people. friedenbach contends recent sweeps have made those conditions worse. one of the things that happens is that people have their narcan taken and then overdose, and that can increase morbidity. however, according to the office of the chief medical examiner, the number of unintentional fatal overdoses has drop

san francisco hall of justice. it's day two of testimony from nima momeni and the prosecutor continued his cross-examination and almostjudge stepped in to admonish momeni for speaking before the prosecutor finished his question. quote, we're about a minute in, but let me remind you that only one person can speak at a time. judge alexandra gordon told momeni. she interrupted about five times during the morning session in an effort to keep order on the stand. momeni was often argumentative and tried to speak over deputy d.a. tally at several points. tally asked him if his story made sense given his and other witness testimony. the key is trying to go after momeni and the ancillary issues, such as who brought the knife? why did he leave? is it plausible that mr. lee, who was stabbed three times, just merely walked away? on the stand, momeni seemed intent on sticking to his story. when the prosecutor asked him what he thought or how things happened, momeni would sometimes say he'd like to see the video of the altercation or some other exhibit so he could describe what happened. at one point, the judge told momeni, the pro
