[applause] thank you. for 125 years on this side, this hospital has taken care of people, regardless of their ability to pay, no matter what their ethnicity was, whether they were a man or woman or transgendered -- would never came fourth, we took care of, and we are so proud to be here -- what ever came force -- whatever came forth, we took care of. we are so appreciative to all of you who helped us on this campaign. san francisco general hospital, when it went before the voters, received 84.3% of the vote. [applause] now, what i want you to think about is when did 84.3% of san franciscos agree about anything, that we got that high level of votes? we did not get that because of the campaign we ran, although we ran a very good campaign, and i'm very appreciative to all of the people here, from the labor unions -- especially 1021 -- who helped us -- [applause] thank you. through the business community, we were supported by democrats, republicans, and greens. we got great support from the other hospital. man

my first encounter with san francisco general was as a trauma patient. i was brought after i was injured during a mugging in the city, and i came back as a staff nurse, and then came back as a registered nurse working in critical care, and now, i and the ceo. i am so glad to be here. we are deployed either by sfpd or san francisco general hospital.ide trauma services to :q_+ seven languages when fully staffed. we have been tried to get positions through the mayor's office. we have the ability to speak, right now, many languages. staff can address this situation and need from the point of the family. we also contact the family and homicide victims. we do so by virtue of case management, ongoing therapy with the family, funeral arrangements, we transport them to the appointment, victims' assistance. we provide ongoing therapy up to one year. after that, we refer to another program called trauma recovery. the director of that program will be speaking about her program. we do short-term case management, therapy, things like that. brief, focus groups, counseling. we do diffusing of services. we do not reach into the schools. we also do that with a child crisis. -- we do out reach in the schools. we see about 150 families a year. on average, about 800 individuals of year. any questions, i would be happy to answer them. >> any question

i recently had a conversation with a doctor at san francisco general hospital who deals frequently with people who are presenting severe alcoholism at the hospital. he chooses to call people by their names. i think it is really worthy of the board as well to look at the individuals who are caught in the cyclical nature of alcoholism, who are homeless, and who are the ones we are trying to serve with our city services, public health department and emergency services as well. every year in the budget process we go through a tug of war. we are dealing with our budget deficit, and we are cutting services that are meaningful to people across the city. often the services that we cut are public health services, treatment services, services that would help us carry out our mission of making the side walks safe and giving people hope and dignity that suffer from alcoholism. i i am glad we can vote on this measure to help the lives of people who are living on our streets. this legislation came out of a process to determine what the costs are to the city for emergency transport for people who are
