mayor lee: it would give the san francisco mta the opportunity to modernize their work rules.while we will not have to make a similar payment in the future, this one was, as they say, already on the books. also from a fairness perspective, the rank-and-file bus drivers had every reason to expectation that the last payment would be made for the fiscal year proceeding the passage of prop g. and i am also glad you asked about the implementation of prop g broadly, because this will lead to better muni systems. we are making solid progress at the mta in implementing the current contract that was negotiated under prop g, hiring port -- part-time operators and accident review, i think we will see benefits of prop g this year and going forward. the purpose was for the mta to negotiate a contract that would support service while being fair to the operators. driving a bus or a train is not an easy job, no one to assure that the city is compensating and treating our drivers fairly, while holding them and me accountable for delivering the service we all want and deserve. i believe prop g

the second thing is i am on the advisory committee for the san francisco mta, you know, the transportationtment. one of their big focuses is talking about bicycles and biking. they're really interested in having a new map. there are maps from private companies that put on their own maps, but that is really a conflict of interest. what i really wanting, and what my committee is one thing is for a new mac -- this one is very old and out of date, but it relates to the whole city. i really want to put together biking trails and green areas in the parks throughout the city, people can go to places to get exercise and experience the outdoors. the people in the mta, our committee has been trying to contact different people within the recreation department, and we have had a hard time contacting anybody. we have been trying for a month. in we're really trying to offer our help to help your department and work together so we can develop a good map that will be mutually beneficial.

san francisco is the chinese new year rally brings books together. i want to thank everyone who is part of making this great announcement possible. our city agencies who are here, the mta, our san francisco police department, dpw, our city administrator. also, i have to thank our mayor. he first spoke to me about this in, i think, our first meeting right after the election. we both wanted to move forward on ideas that would help revitalize not just our merchant corridors and job creation, but make sure that chinatown remains the very special capital of the chinese-american community that it is. i think the announcement is also very special because we're talking about how we use our streets in a way that bill communities. san francisco in recent years has been on the forefront of taking back our streets for our families, our children, our seniors. just like sunday streets, i think what we are experimenting with with this pilot project will be in that direction. we are also talking about making the chinese new year experienced more authentic. more what we expect chinese new year's to be celebrated throughout the world. i want to thank everyone here from the chinese merch

to restate it, the vision that we are proposing for the mta -- san francisco, great city, excellent transportation choices, and a simple, straightforward vision that accomplishes -- encompasses a lot of where we want to be, without using a lot of words. the mission statement is more or less as it has been before. we work together to plan, build, operate, regulate, and maintain the transportation network with our partners to connect communities. the work together part is important, both within the agency and the government, with our other stakeholders. the fact that we do it with our partners, such as regional and community, state, and business partners -- we are connected. some key phrases that speak to what we do to speak to the staff to move us forward. moving on, the four goals -- these are more or less as you saw them before. the first goal is to make sure the system is safe. the second goal is really to make transit first work. the third goal is to make the city a better place. the fourth goal is to improve the organization itself in order to achieve the other three goals. taking a lot of wor
