[music] [music] happy pride! of [laughter] [music] . >> my name is ana renzi. i'm a fire investigator for the city and county of san francisco. the job of a fire investigator is to go after the fire has been put out and to determine the origin and the cause of the fire. so we are the people who after the firefighters have come in and done their magnificent work to extinguish the fire, we go through the fire scene and we are able to find how the fire started. just showing up, being who you are can mean a world of difference to someone. when someone sees you as an identifiably queer person, an identifiable female presenting person or a person of color walk into their home, they can feel more comfortable and more trusting just knowing that you are around and that you may have some insight into their situation and to their community needs that others may not have. the san francisco fire department i'm proud to say goes out of its way to recruit women, minorities, and to the lgbtq+ communit

a lot of people travel for san francisco pride. o pride has always been the pinnacle of prides in the bay area. however, the majority of people of color are black and brown folks, gender queer folks. people that really span that diversity net are in oakland and for whatever reason we have not really elevated those voices as much as we could. therefore we've all come together to really elevate these folks' voices and give them a space and a presence in ways that we haven't done historically. so i'm really excited to have some of those headliners and some of these performances from different communities that sergio just mentioned, and it's going to be a really exciting time. damian: yeah. and so, sergio, this is a big event that--again, that you're bringing to oakland. talk about who should attend this fest. i would imagine that it's those within the lgbt community and those who do--maybe don't identify as such as well. sergio: this is open to everybody, and it doesn't have also an age limit. we are also even going to have a kid area

you know, san francisco prided and prides itself on its restaurant scene.you see that identity of the city dwindling at all? i certainly hope not because it's such a vital part of not just the city's economy, but its identity as a place that's developing new ideas. it's a major source of our tourism product. it's a major aspect of the quality of life for many people who live in the city, so i really hope we're able to strengthen and restore that earlier in the pandemic, we saw a number of federal programs that allowed restaurant tourists to apply for and receive either grants or very low interest loans. there was some complaint that those people who were savvy enough had the technology had the workers to do. had spoke the language. they're the ones who got those loans and those grants while other businesses had had had to suffer. do you see that playing out and who survived and who didn't we haven't really been able to do a detailed analysis of who survived and who is not. so i can't really answer your question. honestly, i have heard those same issues, tho

thousands of people gathered in downtown san jose today for the annual silicon valley pride parade. it is much smaller than san francisco's world famous event to the north. but as ktvu is, james torrez tells us, those who attended say, that's just fine with them. the morning starts with the last minute touches this float for bill .com, built by the company . the parade guides, i think is really just all about being celebratory and having a really fun, bright presence in the parade. their colors are orange and white, so we wanted to make sure that we pulled a lot of their their colors in. but obviously it's all about the rainbows and diversity. inclusion all of that good stuff. the parade kicked off with this shark monster truck from the san jose fire department about 80 groups marched the route much smaller than that of san francisco. we've had a crazy couple of years, covid a lot of bad news, and hopefully this is going to put some good news out in the world. the parade has been around for more than 40 years. it's stanford medicine's first time marching along the route. they used the opportunity to educate the community
