i'm going to talk about the mission of the san francisco public library. the san francisco public library is dedicated to free and equal access to information, knowledge and independent learning and the joyce of reading for our diverse community. i like this mission statement very much because i believe it shows the diversity of our disability communities also should be recognized. but you will see on the slide, the red line that says that accessibility programs of the library will assure that no patron is denied access. this line was actually proposed and added just for our use in access services by a group called the accessibility advisory panel soon after the main library opened. that informs the work of access services program. how do we do this? on the screen people will see a blue and white sign that are like other offices. we base this service to the sign when it was developed by the mayor's on disability. this actually is in all of all of our branch library and main library. it's all over the system and simply informs people that all buildings are w

and next month think the 26th at the san francisco public library there's the overhead thank you. i just came from a meeting with the current poet of san francisco. i'm reminded this is a city of brave positive expression and has been known as the city of poets other than the world. each of the supervisors earlier in the month received a book of poetry to join the students of envied and high schools across san francisco at the public library on saturday 1 to 3. some of you have long been enthusiastically jumping on board. the event is to envision a positive future together in solidarity and from the supervisors we're asking you to either come and drbt the certifies or participate by finding one to 25 lines of poetry at least one word in solidarity with the young people in san francisco we can converge in a positive future. in addition to the other supervisors the other san franciscans are visited and it's going to have music and bring people into a conversion and a sense of community. we heard from a number of speakers to surge forward. we'd like for you to come. >> thank you. nex

secondly, a new exhibit has opened up at the california historical society spur, the san francisco public library, the college of environmental design archives in berkeley, maybe one other venue. it's called unbuilt san francisco and it's an exhibit of those kinds of visionary or maybe not so visionary projects that have been proposed for san francisco and the bay area. there is a really interesting and gorgeous model at california historical society of a project that was proposed in marin called the marin cello and it was -- if you're driving to marin from the city and you go through the tunnel, if you can vision everything from that hillside over to the ocean was proposed for development. and i don't know how long -- i don't know who kept the model. it's at least 8 by 8 or some huge dimension like that. but it's been kept all these years since i guess the '50s is maybe when it was proposed, in the '60s. and i think it's now in the possession of ggnra, but i'm not sure. there wasn't a label on it that said who was in possession of it, but it's really interesting to see. there are other visions f

public library. don't give money to the friends of the library. don't accept money from the friends of the library. what is at stake in the san francisco public library is one of the great privatization scandals of all time. except it is business as usual. i have pointed out for a number of years the city library in san francisco has received from the friends of the library both a discretionary fund and [speaker not understood] fund totaling $65,000 a year. these used to be called slush fund. these funds were never reported in the city librarian statement of economic interest nor are there any 801 gift to agency reports filed. i filed an official complaint with the california fair political practices commission on april 17. despite having the power to investigate without informing the perpetrator, they sent a letter to him anyway on april 24. at that point, the letter had first been sent to jim sutton. the decision to actually investigate was sent to me on may 7 with a cc to the law firm only. the city should ask itself why does the california fair political practices commission in san francisco know in advance that if there is a viola

my name is diane gray and i'm one of the newer board members of the san francisco friends of the public library. i'm wearing a hat today. that organization i'm here with two of our other members, lydia vincent and ferjie newman. we get some funding through the san francisco foundation and we had commissioned actually a project that you will see in the library, in the courtyard of a tile project. it's a lovely project. we have some monies left over and we said we want that to be gifted further to the library moving forward for programs and anything else that the facility needs. so we decided as a group that $12,000 is going to be donated to the bay view library.
