the san francisco public utilities commission notified residents on friday they will be cutting down the 100-foot valley oak called granny tomorrow. it is the largest tree in the north district and it's in the way of the pipeline project. >> we're saying please cease and desist until we can talk about the alternatives and understand what the cost of them is. we really are trying to save this tree, if possible. >> neighbors want the puc to sit down with the community and discuss some alternatives. they say they intend on protecting that tree until they get a response. >>> some of the most famous ghosts of the bay area are set to head out tomorrow and federal authorities plan to tow two obsolete vessels tomorrow morning. rhett claimer and the sagamore will mark the 20th and 21st ships to leave with what's known as the ghost fleet, and environmentalists have even sued the u.s. martime administration saying they are rotting and releasing toxins into the bay. the plan is to remove the vessels and clean them of exterior paint in san francisco and send them to texas where they are set to be

the biggest problem i see with the proposal of the san francisco public utilities commission itself is the idea that commissioner torres was getting at. that is the higher cost of the product to consumers. in marin county, they have been very conscious of this from the beginning. even though they have a procurement only system, they have bent over backwards to keep its price truly competitive with pg&e. it has been very difficult. it has not been always perfect. it has been much better than the proposal would suggest. the thing that mitigates this is that when you do the full bill out of energy efficiency with solar and wind that advocates have been pushing hard for for the last seven or eight years, you build up a set of assets. with the efficiency, you lower the rates considerably over time such that you can amortize the entire product over 15 or 20 years and do not need to offer a product that is more expensive. that is why it is crucial that before you approve any contract on just this track that the sfpuc wants to pursue of the procurement model that marin is pursuing, you also ne

we are in ongoing discussions with the san francisco public utilities commission on the implementation of the sustainable power generation requirements in the sustainability plan. if you recall from our previous presentation before the committee, the project sponsor committed to effectively a 10% power generation commitment of renewable energy and 10% commitment for cogen or energy derived from co-generation. these are commitments above and beyond san francisco's existing standards for renewable energy and conservation. that agreement is undergoing revisions based on feedback from sfpuc staff, and we will be submitting additional revisions this coming friday to the clerk took just concerns raised by sfpuc staff on the structure of the agreement. again, it is based on the sustainability plan, which this committee and planning commission has previously reviewed. in addition to those revisions to those exhibits, changes were made to address concerns about the existing preschool site. as many of you may know, there is approximately 3000 square foot preschool facility on the parkmerced proj
