the san francisco public utilities commission tweeted pictures today of globs of wipes crews had to clean out of a grate at the wastewater treatment plant. >> to declog it, it takes man hours. it takes time, you know. it alters the efficiency of the system. you know, it's a pain quite frankly. >> reporter: the sfpuc is urging people to stop flushing any kind of wipe. >> think before you flush. >> reporter: a message east bay mud and the city of san jose are also spreading as more people are using wipes instead of paper. those wipes don't just cause trouble here at wastewater treatment facilities. they may get stuck in your pipes, causing your toilet to back up. an expensive fix no one wants to deal with during a shelter in place. >> they got to go into the sewer tank and clear it all out. big problems. >> i just got through paying $7,000 to have my pipes cleaned and redone, so i don't flush wipes down the toilet. >> reporter: all those wipes cleaned out of treatment plant equipment have to be treated and taken to the landfill. a messy job you can help prevent. >> it goes right into a sepa

this past year, the san francisco public utilities commission water quality division started receivingre requests to test for lead in the public school system here in san francisco as a result of legislation that had passed from the state requiring all of the public schools to do lead testing. and so as a result, the public utilities commission and the water quality team in particular was asked to meet with the san francisco unified school district to begin to prioritize which schools to test to meet that state mandate. >> the team that tests, we're a full service environmental laboratory, and we take care of both the needs of the water quality division and the waste water enter price. and on the water quality enterprise, we have to also have drinking water that meets all federal and state quality regulations. and lead in schools, we're playing a problem in remediating this problem of lead in schools. >> our role here in communications is being able to take the data that we have that we know is protective of public health and safety and transmit it, give it to the public in a way they

this slide is our work order balance with the san francisco public utilities commission for lafco's oversight of clean power sf. it outlines the balance through the years and the current fiscal year. we have spent minimal funds. we spent to pay interns and research associates like mr. parsons who produced the report. we will be ending this fiscal year with a balance close to $200,000. we are very close to bringing on a consultant to help us with oversight. in fact, that r.f.q. process is wrapping up. i hope to bring a recommendation for a consultant to you at our may 15th meeting. this will be providing expertise for oversight of clean power sf and help us analyze the local buildout report that you heard in january, and also providing feedback on the capital plan and the irp as discussed earlier. the process was disrupted because of the crisis. under your direction, i do anticipate a lot of work on clean power sf in the next fiscal year. this shows the amount of funds lafco was able to raise this fiscal year for the survey of on demand workers. it is about $330,000 -- actually $335,000 we got

public land for housing program goals. it is an under utilized, sizable 17-acre lot owned by the san francisco public utilities commissions that can provide not only affordable housing but also many public amenities like parks. as called for in the balboa station area plan, the transit oriented development location in close proximity to the bart station and muni stations. as shown here, the project started in 2014 with initial committee outreach. currently, the project is at the tail end of its environmental review process and it's planning to come back to the commission for e.i.r. certification and project approvals in may. we will show the project approval schedule at the end of the presentation. over five years of community engagement, we are excited to be here initiating the general plan amendment process. it was established in in addition for providing a venue for public input the c.a.a.'s responsibility was to establish development principles and parameters for developers. over the course of 16c.a.c. meetings, we developed a comprehensive list of development principles and parameters they were developed in response

public transportation system? >> so a bunch of questions embedded there. so in san francisco, we don't have the authority to regulate uber or lyft. we are currently engaged with the california public utilities commission which does have that authority to see are there some carve-outs that we can have in san francisco in order to be able to welcome private providers that provide a tremendous amount of convenience for the people who can afford them but to allow that to the extent that it upholds the public good, that whereby we have the tools to manage the public right of way for the greatest public good. so that is some work that we're doing. at the same time, we're also working in order to minimize the congestion impact on the highest capacity most efficient modes of transportation, which are basically the highest ridership muni lines. so as you can see, we have done a tremendous amount of work recently on market street that's paying huge dividends in terms of improved speed and reliability. as we shorten the muni trip, we can also reinvest the travel time savings in improved frequency of service, which also results then in improved capacity of service. so we are doing the same thing on third and four
