officials say with the san francisco public utilities commission overseeing the city's water delivery system from the reservoir in the yosemite valley. >>> firefighters are battling the river fire in monterey county. they were able to save 20 homes in a residential area. visit video from palo alto firefighters. firefighters battled heavy winds and terrain. you can see the aftermath there. the river fire has burned more than 66 square miles and only 12% containment thus far. evacuations have been ordered for hundreds of presidents. the river fire is burning very close to the carmel fire. fire crews are trying to make sure those two fires do not combine. >>> california is getting help from fema to fight the fires burning in the diablo range of the east bay. and south bay. the state says the disaster relief will allow agencies to reimburse three fourths of their firefighting expenses. the scu complex is made up of 20 different fires in both alameda, contra costa, santa clara, san joaquin and stanislaus county. it has destroyed at least five structures and right now, only 10% containment.

projects -- we do ceqa review, the planning department for many projects by the san francisco public utilities commission in watershed lands where there are sensitive biological resources. most of those projects, we grant categorical exemptions because we, working with the sfpuc staff and consulting biologists often and the california department of fish and wildlife work to ensure those projects are designed to avoid sensitive areas. common example of that might be where an engineer, who is less sensitive to or less aware of biological impact concerns, might design a project with a, say, trenching through drainage that the engineer doesn't even recognize that is a sensitive biological resource. once we get ahold of it and work with the biologists and regulators, we suggest redesign of the project. the result being, if that's feasible, we have the ability to grant categorical exemption for that project. otherwise, we would have prepared a mitigation for the project, saying please relocate your trenching to avoid that ephemeral drainage. this is something we work with, to avoid impacts so that we can have

feeds the water and a lot of the power for the city and county of san francisco and the region as it relates to the public utilities commission that manages that region. there was real concern around this fire. 2800 acres on monday. the containment over the weekend, we got to 20%. real concerned that this could just go. if you want a good news story, learn about the heroism in the firefight and the firefighters there. 60% contained and they kept it at 2800. there's an old adage, unlike baseball, you don't get credit for saves. let's hope that these firefighters get some credit for what they were able to put deuce. we have been talking a lot about it privately, and i thought it's important to share that publicly. great work from cal fire and i mutual aid system. demonstrably exemplified in the mock fire. and this one has been stubborn at 0% containment. we are at 3%. i highlight it because i might need to continue to highlight this. one other fire, it was previously referred to as the council fire and now the sql file. it's hard to monitor. we are managing to monitor all of them and wanted to socializes more publicly with you.
