made my way out to san francisco when i was a college student, and i sat in the class is in san francisco state as well, and i remember growing up at that time around clement street. we call the richmond district the new chinatown in the 1980's at that time. just being around the tremendous unique neighborhood, and discovering san francisco in the 1980's as i grew up, but i also have been very active as a community organizer. i worked in chinatown, and some first jobs also at the mental health center in the richmond area multi services in the 1980's, and i was also a staff are at the chinatown youth center -- i was also a staffer. a lot of my work has been supporting community empowerment, especially in an immigrant and people of color communities. most recently, i have been teaching at san francisco state. i ran the immigrant rights coalition in the city in the 1990's for several years. i'm also an immigration attorney, and a lot of my passion is supporting in power met for immigrant communities in the city as well. >> why did you choose to live in san francisco? supervisor mar: a lot of peopl

have not wanted to look at in terms of bringing that state vehicle license fee back up to historical levels. if that happens, i think we in san francisco have to be mindful that we uniquely already have that authority and to the extent that the state chooses to embrace that authority, where do we stand? since conversations are underway in san francisco about how to spend our own vlf, i think we need to take a strategic, somewhat defensive position to make sure that we don't lose that to the state's interest, valid as it is, to invest at the state level. the governor released his budget, which most of you know, just recently. it's pretty good for transportation. there are some projected adjustments, if will you in the state transit assistance, which is a key source of operating funds for this agency. we have confirmed with our cfo, despite of that fluctuation in that fund source, our budget is okay. fairly conserve estimate that allows for the fluctuation in that fund source. that fund source used to be a line item in the budget, but you recall a couple of years ago there was a gas tax swap, a complicated maneuver to ensure that transpo

i graduated from san francisco state in '84 and i've worked in san francisco ever since. i work for two other general contractors prior to my wife and i opening up our own construction firm. it took us a few years to become an lbe and then a few years after that we finally got a job with san francisco under the job program. we've done a lot of work, probably 70 task orders to date under the job program. one specific one that i want to speak about is the fog frame, fat only grease program which to us still is a small job. half of the job is purchasing two tanks which we bought in nevada and had shipped here to be installed at the southeast plant. that gave our small company a lot of experience in the energy business and we use that past performance to get a federal project with the gsa, putting the first biomass boiler in a gsa-owned federal building which was actually a $5 million contract, a very large contract. that type of experience and past performance that we got as an lbelj contractor has gotten us a tremendous amount of work elsewhere and given us a lot of experie
