i'm currently a hospitality major at the san francisco state university. and i'd like have to say if it wasn't for the hiring event that happened with match bridge about two years ago i wouldn't be focused on a career path and not talking to you. it all started actually, let's go back to stage one i grew up in a low income family in the bay area. growing up in a protecting family was not easy for me. since birth i had to if he said for myself i had the love from my mom but seeing my older sister helped to pay rent 16 i believed this was the kind of responsibility i would take on that shaped me. as soon as i was old enough to get a job i nailed my first entrust at navy and was with them until my freshman year at san francisco state. i knew that was sort of the last chapter ending my youth and time to move on and acquired is job at the singapore airlines that started my interest in the joufrm industry but i was 18 and this type of work was not right so i ended that as well. i was jobless and definitely on my own in the big city at the 19 paying my own bills

i'm [speaker not understood] at san francisco state university. i'm happy to be here and honestly a little bit concerned about all the comments about the sunshine i've heard up to this point. but fundamentally i'm here because i agree with the basic principles of this ordinance. open government and transparency, citizen access to and participation in local government and fundamentally, i read both of these a tenets of democracy, participatory deliberative democracy. on principle the commission sounds great. one of the reasons why i think i'm qualified for this is that i have been thinking, writing, and teaching about these principles for well over a decade now. my first book was on local citizens interacting with public officials, won two national book awards. and the book i'm working on right now is on local citizen participation in public meetings. now, i don't know as much as people who are committed to and have already been on this commission before. but what i do bring to the table is a serious amount of fresh ideas and definitely some expert

state and congressional races. in san francisco a fight over height limits is on the ball et. joining me now to discuss these are terry christensen, professor at san jose state university. c.w. nevius, san francisco chronicle reporter and scott shafer. who are the five major candidates and which ones are considered front runners? >> there's a total of eight but five who are real contenders. four of them are incumbent city council members. a couple are terms out and a couple will continue their terms. a fifth is a supervisor. they have been elected and re-elected. at least three of them are major contenders. >> that's sam bicardo, madison nguyen and dave. >> that's right. they have significant campaign operations. >> what's the biggest issue in the race? >> that's a little hard to tell what they're all talking about is public safety and related to that pension reform. pension reform is what reduce our police force by about 400 officers. public safety has been a big issue in the neighborhood. that's what people are talking about. that's what shows up in the polls. the candidates, i don't think it really manage to differentiate themselves. dave, the supervisor, is more in
