i am a professor at san francisco university. i am also a founder of a technology firm. i am also on the board for women in science, technology, and engineering, with the purpose of educating women to get into the industry of science. above all, i am an immigrant, which is the hardest thing i have done in my life. forget about the other things that i have done. all these connections make you who you are. being, on this commission has been a privilege and an honor for me. it is something that is very close to my hard and my whole purpose had been not only to be here and let people know how difficult it is to be an immigrant, as to improve the quality of life for them. but also, wringing my community, the iranian-american community into the larger american community. because we are relatively new immigrants, we live and hang around with iranians, but we need to make sure that they are part of another larger communities, irish-americans, chinese americans. i will give you a couple of examples and then i can open up to questions. one that i am really proud of, in 2006, we go

san francisco, california. approximately one year ago i atened a california -- attended a california women's league workship. it was at the university of california san francisco. and the purpose of the workship was to demystify the process for women, specifically, to enter into the board or commission appointment slolingts in san francisco. -- slots in san francisco. so i made a personal commitment that i would do my home work and research what was available in san francisco. i identified three opportunities that were of interest and the assessment appeals board was one of three. the other was the judge pro tem program through the san francisco courts. this opportunity had seats available so i decided to pursue this opportunity. i am a licensed attorney here in san francisco. i attended the university of santa clara law school. i worked full-time that time at a public health nurse for the city of burkely. i was also a single parent. but prior to that i also attended the university of san francisco and studied nursing. so i'm very familiar with the city. in terms of my professional career, i work for a very large federal executive a

we are working now with the university of san francisco. we believe there will be a partner on this issue. we will resolve leadership training for police officers that will begin at the entry level, and it will continue training for each rank. there will be also additional training that will be rank specific. sergeants would get training, and captains and above. an exciting opportunity for us. we're going to be partaking in this with the new orleans police department and the manchester police department in the u.k. the justice department is basically funding mess with the intention of creating model blueprints for police leaders around the country. i think it is a tremendous opportunity for the san francisco police to permit to be at the cutting edge in the development of personnel training. that is a year and a half program. at the end of the process of those two particular projects real been selected, i think we're going to have an incredibly -- an incredible opportunity to move forward with training at the san francisco police department
