i'm just talking about san francisco. i can't -- for those out of towners, if that's what their values are, that's fine, but i'm talking about us in san francisco. but i realize that in the last six months, there's been opportunities for us -- the different departments -- the police departments and so forth -- to get further training in pretty similar stuff, whether it was for the mass demonstration piece, there was opportunities there. there were -- so in a way, it's -- there is he aa l's a l contradictions when people come and testify. i'd like to say, in my point of view, some of the things that public speakers pointed out is that urban shield is sort of a conflicting issue for us in san francisco. on the one hand, it promotes public safety through tactical training, and on the other hand, it instills fear in every community it aims to protect, so i don't know how to resolve that. and i'm -- as i mentioned earlier, i'm totally really unhappy about the timing of all this stuff, and it seems to happen over and over again

paratransit, and i know someone who was using the taxi service who had a doctor's appointment in san francisco and had to get just over the border of san mateo and so it was interesting where you run into complications when you have a one-time trip or there's something over a border that doesn't service a consumer and i wonder how you resolve issues like that if it just crosses the border? >> oh, yeah, good question, thank you. the paratransit program is required to provide service that complements the muni service and so the -- and that's under the a.d.a. requirements and guidelines and so paratransit service goes generally three-quarters of a mile around where muni goes, and the muni lines and the muni service and if a person that has a trip that is outside of that they can take their paratransit to wherever the end of the -- end of that border is, that service area, and then i would suggest they could continue on, but then they'd be responsible for paying for that portion of the trip. >> yeah, i think that is an interesting point because it also eats up a lot of time and paratransit has a s

as you can see here, san francisco has produced one housing unit for every 1.65 jobs created. and other counties this has been even higher. in san mateo there's 3.2 jobs almost for every housing unit built in that county. this discrepancy of jobs and housing is an issue throughout the bay area. really, the production though we've shown production has picked up, take longer term look in the 1970s the bay area added 450,000 new housing units. whereas we're projected to build less than 150,000 in this decade if we continue with current trends. so there is an imbalance between the amount of jobs we're adding and incomes jobs are paying and the amount of housing. >> supervisor: would you mind repeating that? >> so throughout the bay area over the last few decades, there's been a steady decline in the number of housing units even while the economy expanding. there's a mismatch between the adding of jobs without the commensurate number of housing units to meet that demand. so if i can offer concluding remarks. the increase in housing costs say long-term trend as we see but it really h

i feel very fortunate to work in san francisco. when i travel across the country and i am on one national board that looks at aging services, i realize how san francisco does exactly what you say. i mean, we are really at the forefront of these issues and thinking ahead often. i actually also think that ageism is so embedded in society that people just don't want to talk about it. one of the things we are doing as a department is to really look at what it means to reframe that conversation. there has been a lot of work done. there is an organization called frameworks that's really looked at reframing aging. we are looking to adopt that model in san francisco and think about how we talk about aging, being much more deliberate in using language, thinking about older adults, talking about older adults and aging instead of thinking about people being frail, thinking about people aging in the best way they can. it doesn't mean looking at aging and saying it is all glowing. it doesn't mean people don't get sick or we won't acknowledge th

and only san francisco. i just have to state as an individual who is not a homeowner in san francisco and is not certain that they can afford to own a home in san francisco, i've often gotten advice that i should buy a home outside of san francisco to be a homeowner. i don't think it's unusual for a san francisco resident who is a renter to own a home outside of san francisco, given the housing prices we have here in the city. in fact, i know i have many friends who are domiciled in san francisco. there are individuals we know that are executive directors that are renters in san francisco but own outside of san francisco and we do not question their residency. so i just want to say, again, that i want to move forward with these four outstanding individuals who really have offered their support and advice to this board around housing and affordable housing as we move very quickly through our technical process around inclusionary housing. thank you. >> councillor breed: thank you, supervisor kim. supervisor ro
