you know, i went to city college and fourth and mission in san francisco under the chefs ria, marlene and betsy. they are proud of me. i don't want to leave them out of the journey. everyone works hard. they are very supportive and passionate about what they do, and they all have one goal in mind for the bayview to survive. >> all right. it is time to eat, people. >> we have private and public gardens throughout the garden tour. all of the gardens are volunteers. the only requirement is you're willing to show your garden for a day. so we have gardens that vary from all stages of development and all gardens, family gardens, private gardens, some of them as small as postage stamps and others pretty expansive. it's a variety -- all of the world is represented in our gardens here in the portola. >> i have been coming to the portola garden tour for the past seven or eight years ever since i learned about it because it is the most important event of the neighborhood, and the reason it is so important is because it links this neighborhood back to its history. in the early 1800s the portola w

we're you and that, and i really believe that san francisco really embodies that. i tell you, it was the greatest decision i ever made. i kept thinking, my gosh if i didn't play softball i wonder if i would have heard about it. it's funny you plan in life and gu to college and you plan your next steps, but the most profound decision nz life, is how you meet people are random. i was meant to be i think and it was such a great fit being that social worker with the ax, that's it. >> so i see san francisco and san francisco leadership and government as a beacon for the entire country. because we are so up front about what we believe in, we're really up front about inclusivity and i know that, others look at us, many look to us. we've had other departments, contact us in terms of how do you, how do you do this? how do you create a diverse equitable and inclusive workforce? and so, but i would be lying if i said that we don't have any problems in california or in san francisco or in the department. we are out liars, sure? are we doing our best again to address those thing

i have never worked on the practicals for san francisco. i had one project in my career for plan nothing 2015 regarding the bayshore station that was ended as it began. make clear i don't have an ownership stake in my employer. i have no stake not an officer of the corporation. the -- work this is doing is on research and analysis supporting the racial framework for the housing element. i was careful to make sure i was discovering whether or not there were conflicts the contracts the scopes of work and the budgets are set. these are on track to likely be wrapped up the end of this year. and my understanding is this by the time the housing element will come forward to planning for a vote the contract should be wrap you'd up and no conflict of interest or likely need to recuse. i will check with the city attorney to make sure there are no conflicts this is brood guidance and as items come before planning the details will merit and so i want to check in. sounds like you get it. that's important stuff and then -- you and i did noted have this co

i went to san francisco state university. i did stay home and i helped my parents work throughout the summers to learn what it is that makes our community so special. after graduating i worked for an investment bank in hong kong for a few years before returning when my dad said he was retiring. he passed away a few years ago. after taking over the business we made this a little more accessible for visitors as well as residents of san francisco to visit. many of our teas were traditionally labeled only in chinese for the older generation. today of our tea drinkkers are quite young. it is easy to look on the website to view all of our products and fun to come in and look at the different varieties. they are able to explore what we source, premium teas from the providence and the delicious flavors. san francisco is a beautiful city to me as well as many of the residents and businesses here in chinatown. it is great for tourists to visit apsee how our community thrived through the years. this retail location is open daily. we have

thanks, everyone. >> i view san francisco almost as a sibling or a parent or something. i just love the city. i love everything about it. when i'm away from it, i miss it like a person. i grew up in san francisco kind of all over the city. we had pretty much the run of the city 'cause we lived pretty close to polk street, and so we would -- in the summer, we'd all all the way down to aquatic park, and we'd walk down to the library, to the kids' center. in those days, the city was safe and nobody worried about us running around. i went to high school in spring valley. it was over the hill from chinatown. it was kind of fun to experience being in a minority, which most white people don't get to experience that often. everything was just really within walking distance, so it make it really fun. when i was a teenager, we didn't have a lot of money. we could go to sam wong's and get super -- soup for $1. my parents came here and were drawn to the beatnik culture. they wanted to meet all of the writers who were so famous at the time, but my mother had some serious mental illnes

i had to dress up. back in 1965 when the grateful dead came in existence, they really not only put san francisco on the they put the haight ashbury tyedye on the map and created music for everyone. mixing reggae, gospel and seoul, country everything they did represented a way to bring people together. and i think that is why so many people identify with their work. identify with their music. and feel so connected to this group. because there was always something for everyone. and some of you may have been arc live at the time. i was not arc live i like to drag brag about that. i saw so many of the photographs of them performing on haight ashbury primary nothing golden gate park. when you look at the crowds and the access of people, it was absolutely extraordinary. and what they were able to do, along with so many other iconic group in this community and this city, was to make magic happen and make us feel good about the time despite the challenges that existed. we remember the vietnam war and other things going of and in fact, jerry garcia privileged he was born and raised in this neighborhood. lived th

i don't know about you this looks amazing. this will be exciting for san francisco and i then and there in a major city like san francisco we have our challenges. it does in the mean we should not take an opportunity to have a good time. and that's what this event does. outside lands is about having a good time. over 100 restaurants. don't come unless you are hungry. you can enjoy the food. there will be drinks and food and other things to enjoy in addition to the music and the experience. i'm looking forward to hearing all the noise, all overnight city. i know the neighbors may not want to but what i appreciate most about outside land system their work with the community. with the neighborhood. to recognize the need to support and make sure the community is not inconvenienced. we are asking people to take public transportation. and to make sure they look on the outside land's website to know the options available. we have a great system to get you in to golden gate park to outside landses, we have a pretty fortunate system it get you out. people who have

the primary thing is that i grew up here in san francisco and i'm serving in the city where i grew up. i transitioned to community training and i was able to build disaster resilient padre of volunteers and bringing us all the latest information so that we can be ready for a disaster. pride and loyalty are the heart of a firefighter. it's in the way we do our job from the very smallest thing from our everyday checks we do of our equipment. from the way that we treat each other and the community we come in contact with every day. and loyalty is to our own families is to the pride we have in this department. it's to the other members when we're out in a dangerous situation keeping each other safe. it goes throughout every aspect of being a firefighter. i'm really proud of the way our department approaches diversity, equity, and inclusion. i was hired in a class that had 45 people and 17 women. it was an accomplishment at the time, but there were many women that came before me that laid the ground work and i had to see it to be it. someone had to recruit me into this job. i didn't know i

i have been with the city and county of san francisco for 17 years. was a cement mason, that was my first job. when i got here i thought that it was too easy. so i said one day i'll be a supervisor. and when i run this place it will be ran different. and i didn't think that it would happen as fast as it did, but it did. and i came in 2002 and became a supervisor in 2006. and six months later i became the permanent supervisor over the shop. >> with all of those responsibilities and the staff you're also dealing with different attitudes and you have to take off one hat and put on another hat and put on another hat. and she's able -- she's displayed that she can carry the weight with all of these different hats and still maintain the respect of the director, the deputy director and all of the other people that she has to come in contact with. >> she's a natural leader. i mean with her staff, her staff thinks highly of her. and the most important thing is when we have things that happen, a lot of emergencies, she's right by me and helps me out every time t

i grew up in san francisco. my family did in the they came to the country as refugees from a long war. my father at the time was a medical student studying in greece and protested against the ethiopian government revoked his citizenship and lost everything. he and my mother came to san francisco to build a new life. when they came they believed in the american dream. through work and education you can do anything. my dad instead of being able to continue his work in medical school no credits transferred worked 30 years as a taxi driver and they sent us to catholic school. my family was religious and thought it was the best way for us to move forward. i did not agree with everything but i believed being a person for other, being of service and being the change you want to see in the world. i got my msw from berkeley and working to get folks off the street and into recovery and helping those who were incarcerated rebuild their lives. that's why i have done the work over 20 years it help make san francisco a better

i always dream on becoming a citizen, growing up in san francisco as a latina, as an immigrant, and being so a flayed of express my political opinion was always a challenge and i knew once i become a citizen, i was going to be able to choose who i want to represent me, who you know, who take a lead on -- speak for my family or for those who don't have the right to do it, so go years ago i -- so two years ago i became a citizen and it was nice to check my register voting and take part of, you know, this city and everything that this city give us. i'm a mother of three kids and the future of this city is, like, what's most important for me and i think that if we -- if we exercise our right to vote and we do our part, this is going to be, you know, better in the coming years, so i encourage you all who are residents to please take, take the time to become ape citizen and to never be afraid again to speak for yourself and to travel, to travel without fear and visit your loved ones abroad. my name is marcella. my name is adrianazang and i was the former chair of the san francisco youth commission and i was the district seven appointee by supervisor melgar. it has been an absolute joy serving on the san francisco youth commission. for the past two years, i was the district 7 representative and to be honest, i still remember that very exact moment i received the e-mail in which then president norman yee appointed me and i screamed, i cried, i yelled to my parents that i got on the commission and to all of the supporters here, you might think i'm crazy, you're probably right but i know all of these commissioners here today can resonate with that sentiment. truly bias aside, this commission is the best youth commission in the world. i mean, it's a huge statement and i will back it up, don't worry. um, for the past five years alone, i can name so many achievements that have pushed san francisco towards a more just and equitable future. for example, mayor breed mentioned pre-muni for youth and the next thing is the 2020 ballot that lost by one percent and maybe we'll try again in the near future.

i applied for the san francisco affordable housing lottery three times. my son and i were having to have a great -- happened to have a great lottery number because of the neighborhood preference. i moved into my home in 2014. the neighborhood preference goal was what really allowed me to stay in san francisco. my favorite thing is the view. on a clear day, i'm able to see city hall, and on a really clear day, i can see salesforce tower. we just have a wonderful neighborhood that we enjoy living in. being back in the neighborhood that i grew up in, it's a wonderful, wonderful experience. now, we can hopefully reach our goals, not only single mothers, but single fathers, as well, who are living that. live your dream, live your life, >> launch upon clean air snernt bay view hunter's point. i want to start with the chair of the board of directors of the air quality management district. john bauder. i want to welcome him up he is also the mayor of emrealville. he has been supportive of this event and of this launch and so chair, i will hand it to you.
