san francisco? >> we do not maintain that information. employment status is not relevant. we do not care about your employment status or immigration status. we do not ask that information. >> for me, as a resident of san francisco and a san francisco taxpayer -- if one of the goals of this program is to protect the san francisco taxpayer, i would like to know how many employers are being defective subsidized by our taxpayer dollars. -- being de facto subsidized by our taxpayer dollars. when we look at shifting this $52 million relatively quickly, and people starting to shift their game plan around, it would not be good to continue the exodus of opportunity outside of our borders while our residents continue to be -- continue to live here, but will be employed outside our city and will continue to receive health care here. i understand you do not ask it. it is a status question. but i think in fairness to the business community it is an apropos question. president o'brien: any further questions from commissioners? i would like to ask a couple of questions myself. mr. goldber

i am director of postal affairs for the san francisco art commission. it is my pleasure to welcome you and the artists, the community partners, the vendors, and folks in san francisco for this launch. [applause] i want to start by thanking -- we had a long list because this has been a great production, so you have to bear with me. we want to start by thanking the john's brothers piano company -- the johns brothers piano company. we want to thank the d.c. piano company from berkeley for providing the piano for tonight's launch. [applause] last year, we got a fabulous grant to help make a really significant investment throughout the year, and we launched what is called the artery project. it is a pun for all the different ways that market street works for us. it is a major summer program for the city, and at the same time, we have been using the arts to reinvigorate and reconnect people with this fabulous commercial and civic thoroughfare, so the artery project launched this year. today's are in store fronts is part of that initiative -- art in storefronts is p

it is a huge economic impact in san francisco. in my opinion, it is getting our costs under control but also promoting economic development so we have a financial engine that will continue to promote us year after year. >> what are your ideas on dealing with the issue of homelessness in san francisco? >> i am one that thinks mayor newsom did a great job thinking proactively about what we need to do in san francisco. when he started care not cash -- but enacted so many things past that. project award down, when he ended up making sure there were family members on the receiving end, giving people bus tickets to go back home to where they are from -- project homeward bound. unfortunately, the project does not have a silver bullet ending. we deal with our homeless problem, and a lot of it, we need to make sure that the homeless population -- a lot of them have mental health issues where it is just not solvable to lock them up. we need to help them, and i think we have that in our heart and soul to make sure that we treat the people as

this is closest to the san andreas fault. many people believe that the closer you are to default, the greater the ground motion might be. that is a portion that is a south westerly portion of san francisco that has some special earthquake hazards. we are here to talk about the geology of this area. why don't you tell us about what is going on? >> there is a giant step here at the edge of the escarpment, the edge of the landslide. all the land to the west of us is part of a landslide that is upwards of 200 feet deep. it goes underneath the ocean. it causes damage and it was mapped by the earliest geologists'. there are many kinds of rocks here. there is a big sequence of merced formation. this is a base in deposit that was formed by the interaction at the end of the continental margin. >> this is just on top. this is the same material that we were looking at at the last site. you can see it is on our way to the last side. it is deposited here by wind. it is 40-50 feet thick. this acts as a big sponge. the water flows through an

the city and county of san francisco is san francisco's largest employer and the pattern of health benefits and how the trust fund is covered affects huge numbers of people across the city, especially the eastern districts and district 6. with constituents who work for the city for school districts. citywide, however, we are proud for what we achieved with healthy san francisco, health benefits for hotel workers, health benefits and insurance for city workers. there are three big problems related to fairness and honesty with this legislation, which can be cured by separating out the health services measure. , which affects the governance of the health service trust fund, to allow disclosure and discussion with those affected. we have heard this called the consensus measure. it is not true, in terms of the hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries dependent of health services. it is a multi-employer trust fund and not all employers, school districts were there. certainly, retirees and their dependants were not. rank-and-file members of the unions involved have not voted on this consensus packag

why is he so important to the history of san francisco art? >> he is a very famous ceramic ist.nowing the limitations of clay, he got involved in bronze in around 1962. he was teaching at the university of california, berkeley. >> your gallery celebrated the 50th anniversary of continuous operation. you are a pioneer in introducing the work and representing him. >> i have represented him since 1966. i was not in business until 1961. he made a big deal out of working in clay. the things he was doing was something never seen before. >> it is a large scale bronze. it has been sitting here of the hall of justice since 1971. talk about what happens to the work of art out of the elements. >> the arts commission commissioned the piece. they did not set aside money for repair. it has slowly changed color. it was black. it has been restored. >> it has been restored to the original patina. >> there was no damage done to its. i do not think there were any holes made in it. they have been working on it for six or eight weeks. it is practically ready to go. i am very excited to see it done.

this is literally all of the water that crosses the county line in san francisco. current water use is at 85.6 gallons per day. everyone would have to take a share of that. that is below 100 gallons per capita per day. the last average is at 92.2 per day. this is under the way you calculate compliance with the water conservation act. that does not mean we will not do additional conservation but san francisco is really out there in terms of party complying with low water use. 85.6 gallons, sometimes you hear other numbers turn around like 51 gallons per capita which is residential water use in the san francisco. the gross number is calculating all of the water used in san franciscoslashthe number of residents. you will hear the key numbers. -- dues to san francisco -- used in san francisco divided by the number of residents. first, we are in the process of working to secure additional supplies to meet the shortfall due to the flow requirements that are required for the calaveras dam project. we were reporting progress on this back in march and this is where we are lo

new court action in san francisco today in an issue that is getting national attention. opponents of the november ballot initiative to ban circumcision in the city are filing a lawsuit. abc7's amy hollyfield joins us live from san francisco superior court with more on the lawsuit and also this is quite a debate. >> it is. local jews and muslims are coming together to fight this initiative today in court. but they aren't going after it on religious grounds. even though questions on the front have been raised. check out the comic strip. it's called "foreskin man" and features a blonde hero battling a jewish person who performs circumcision. created by the man who wrote initiative to ban circumcision in san francisco. it's raising questions about a possible anti-semitic agenda. the group filing the lawsuit is going a different route. plaintiff says initiative violates a state law to prohibit local government from enacting restrictions on medical procedures. supporters say they are not anti-semitic. they just believe that circumcision is painful a
