the program is free to anybody in san jose. a san francisco business owner who was shot right outside of his shop is now closing, but he says he's not abandoning the city. martin alev, who owns the vapor room near san francisco's upper market street, held a farewell celebration for his dispensary on ninth street yesterday. it will be closing down as he recovers after a major trauma. san francisco police released this surveillance video from january 27th. martin was outside of his shop taking a smoke break when a man rode up on an e-bike, pulled out a gun and pointed it at him. martin says the man shot him seven times. the gunman was later killed in this shootout with san francisco police, who found a cache of weapons in his apartment, which happened to be in the same building as the vapor room. martin says he didn't know the man or doesn't know why he was shot. he hopes to reopen again after taking some time off. we're going to try again somehow, hopefully in another location, because i don't really want to work at this location

nbc bay area's damian trujillo is in san jose with that story. school districts across the state are still doing the math, but the loss in state funding for one day is huge, and administrators worry there's another loss that directly impacts students. tens of thousands of students across the country stayed home on monday, an act of protest against president trump's mass deportation plans. it's important for them to see what's going on in today's world and that it's not right, and that they could actually they actually have a voice. school districts certainly heard the protesters message loudly. that's because some state funding is tied to attendance rates in san jose's franklin mckinley school district, 1611 students were out, well above the district's average sick rate. those absences mean the cash strapped district, which is debating school closures, lost roughly $128,000 in state funding in the nearby alum rock school district. the numbers were even 2900 students were out, adding up to a loss of roughly one quarter of $1 llion in state funding

that will put us to 59 in san jose, 57 in livermore, 55 in martinez and upper 50s to the north bay, sanfrancisco, rig there at 57. and we're going to keep weather just like this as we head into sunday's forecast. so let's go ahead and move it into next week. i want to get you the latest on what could be a significant storm system here for california. it starts to gather strength on tuesday next week. and then it looks like this atmospheric river is more centered in southern california. so right now they take the brunt of it, but we would still be in it with that rainfall wednesday and also on thursday. so overall totals right now with that trend towards southern california, could be anywhere from 2 to 4in around los angeles. so that could certainly bring in major flooding issues. also, landslides in the fire burn scars. for us, it's one to about 2.5in. but if that atmospheric river line goes a little bit more to the north, our totals would also increase. so that's something we are closely monitoring. not only the rain, but what could be five plus feet of snow through the central and als

this comes as ice agents were recently spotted in san jose and san francisco. ice has arrested over 8000 immigrants across the country since trump's second term started. it's in the mid 30s right now, 36 in palo alto and in san jose. well, in san francisco we are starting out at 41 degrees. take a look at the highs that we're expecting. this is a little bit cooler than what's normal for early to mid february, as we're going to see the temperatures in the upper 50s 57 for napa, as well as martinez and livermore 57 degrees tomorrow, abo the same and even cooler in some of the inland valleys. and then on wednesday, it continues to get even colder. so we do have some cold weather and some rain that will start to come in with an atmospheric river starting late on wednesday, with moderate to heavy rain moving in on thursday. so we are watching out for the possibility of flooding the elevated landslide threat once again, mainly in the north bay and then the coastal mountains, and the sierra is going to get about 2 to 3ft of snow this week. let's take a look at this storm system as it drops in. once again, expecting a quick shot of rain on wednesday with more widespread rain and that atmospheric river for the end of the we

san jose picked up 4/10 of an inch of the wind gusts.n, the wind was just roaring yesterday and last night for some. sfo 56, pacifica, half moon bay, morgan hill, san jose and clayton all between 40 and 56 miles per who 40s on the temps 150 there a couple of 50s sfo and also half moon bay. still a few bands kind of rotating through it says, you know, i'm not really done yet. and a lot of this is right off the san mateo coast right there, kind of moving in there and also down towards santa cruz. so there's still a couple little bands that have to finish up here before we can say we're done, and then we'll start to get some drier air in here and it will be a nicer weekend. i there's a frost and freeze warning for tomorrow, but there might be a lot of moisture there. but i think sunday monday no doubt are going to be much colder. the key is going to be what happens next wednesday, thursday and friday a couple. some forecast models are sending the storm track a little more south. others are saying nope, we'll keep it north right in marin, so

the san jose police chief and the san jose mayor have said that sjpd will not be helping ice agents enforce immigration policy. similar protests happened in los angeles, where hundreds of protesters made their way onto highway 101, blocking traffic. organizers say protesters will also be showing up against companies that have rolled back diversity, equity and inclusion da policies since trump was elected. now, here on your screen, some of the other protests that happened across the country on the left. protests in san diego and in houston, where there were lots of signs saying proud immigrant and immigrants have raised me and proud of that. immigrants are part of the american dream. on the right, protesters who rallied in dallas and also in dekalb county, georgia, that's where four people were arrested. on the bottom, though, that is the protest in phoenix, where police showed up in riot gear and they were there for crowd control. one person did take off in a police vehicle, which was then recovered. no word on any arrests there in phoenix. we will be following the day without an immigrant

high temperatures 40 to 50 for most of you. 60 in san jose. notice there is some snow mixing in with rain right around lake and mendocino counties. snow levels will be running low up there. level two it's a moderate strength storm for tomorrow. rain, brief downpours, gusty winds, thunder chance and flooding is possible on the streams, creeks and the roadways. so 7:00 in the morning, the commute is getting underway and the rain is moving in. it is going to spread and there will be pockets of downpours at noontime around the north bay, the santa cruz mountains, the south bay. as you'll notice heading into the evening hours, still looking at some pockets of moderate rain and then scattered lighter showers for a nighttime going into your friday morning commute. and then friday early in the afternoon. a few more showers before this system is done with us. rainfall with this system will range anywhere from about a quarter of an inch to an inch and a quarter up to our north. and in the santa cruz mountains, winds will come up out of the south 45 to 5

upper 50s around san jose, mid 50s around san francisco to oakland and into the north bay. now we did talk about rain chances creeping up a little bit more quickly as we get into tuesday evening, and we'll watch some of this rain on approach by five and 6 p.m. and i think by tuesday night and wednesday, that's going to be the first round that comes in with a weather system that is kind of dropping down on the coast. so notice the top rain totals, the green, anywhere from about a third of an inch of rain, maybe some of the mountains closer to a half inch. but we're seeing higher totals here out near the coast as the storm drops to the south. it also has some cold air to work with, so don't be surprised. some of the hills are east of san jose, and in the north bay. may get a dusting of snow early on wednesday morning and watch how that drops south. then we'll see this particular weather system setting up for thursday which may have an atmospheric river boost with it. and the timeline with that bull's eye is right there for the thursday morning commute. it does move to the cen

san jose leaders taking an official position on the issue today. late this afternoon, city council unanimously approved a resolution to, quote, preserve the safety and dignity of all of its residents, regardless of national origin or legal status. before today's meeting, supporters held a rally outside city hall. the public needs to hear it from their city council. no city employee will work with ice. no san jose police officer will work with ice, and no one who works at the city will ask about your immigrationtatus. during the meeting, council member ortiz acknowledged that so far, san jose ice activity has been limited to targeted individuals, but he assumes more indiscriminate actions are coming. a recent poll by the associated press norwalk center for public affairs research finds 4 in 10 americans support deporting immigrants living in the u.s. illegally. tit for tat tariffs. that's how the trade war with china seems to be developing. tonight, the question is, can the two sides find common ground before american consumers see rising prices nex

you see blue skies, san francisco, san jose, walnut creek, and atop san bruno mountain. that's where our storm ranger is parked, constantly scanning close to the ground for any possible rain. earlier, sky ranger flew over the russian river after the river got dangerously high earlier this week. tonight it is continuing to recede, which is great news. sky ranger also got this video of crews working to chop up and clean up a large tree in santa rosa that fell in the storm onto a power line. chief meteorologist jeff ranieri joins us now. jeff, i know we're talking about a break in the rain for the weekend, but looks like it's coming back. yeah, there will be some chances of rain here as we eventually get into next week's forecast. right now you see a little bit of rain left winds anywhere from five to about 20mph. so the winds calmed down. the widespread rain is gone. it's been so nice to get in on that sunshine. and you can see down here across the south bay. we do have some scattered rain in morgan hill that's going to be moving off to the south, away from us here as we m
