, san jose city council members will likely put the finishing touches on a plan to put hotels or motels into homes for people who don't have anywhere else to live. the council approved the planning commission's idea two weeks ago, but will take a final vote today. under the plan, nonprofits could get multi-year leases on hotel rooms, which could then be temporarily used by the city's homeless population. supporters say the plan could provide people with transitional housing they need to get back on their feet. >>> a charity in santa clara county is taking another step towards helping undocumented children find host families here in the valley. catholic charities of santa clara county will hold an informational session tonight at their headquarters on zanker road in san jose. they're working on a proposal to bring 50 undocumented children to the county to give them a place to stay as the federal government processes their immigration status. organizers will hold a questions and answers session for anyone interested in helping. i

san jose airport has had two stowaways slip through in four months. last week the airport called hartman's breach no big deal. well, that caught the attention of some san jose city leaders. they want to know what's going on. kpix 5 reporter da lin looked into that yesterday. >>> reporter: the airport's aviation director backtracked today saying the previous statement was misunderstood and that the breach is a big concern. in fact, she says they have tightened airport security. now the city's public safety committee will launch an investigation into the two stowaway cases. they want to see what can be done to make sure it doesn't happen again. >> 24,000 passengers pass through mineta every day. >>> it is 4:36 now. a brutal beating in san francisco is now a murder investigation. the family of bryan higgins took him off life support yesterday. his friends said their good- byes at a vigil in duboce park. higgins worked at a deli and had the nickname feather. friends can't imagine why someone would attack him. >> you didn't even have to come to him and say, hey, feather, i'm having a bad day. he knew and would just embrace you. >> higgins was found unconscious sunday
