at san jose state university, terisa estacio, kron4 news. >>pam: san jose is a rehiring many police that were laid off as a result of budget cuts. 65 officers lost jobs last june. city hall made deep cuts to help balance the budget. over the past several months, about half of those laid-off officers have been reinstated as a result of replacing those officers who were leaving the force for other reasons. >> whenever a vacancy was created in we had an eligibility list for those offices or laid off for them to be reinstated. about half of them decided to come back. we do not want to give the public perception that we're adding officers. the only time will call those officers to come back is if there is a vacancy. the number officers in the department is hovering right around 1100. the number does change from week to week due to people coming in and resigning were being terminated for retiring. >>grant: a major san francisco intersection is shutting down. the intersection at the church and market is going to close starting friday night at 7:00 p

back to our developing news at san jose state just a short time ago police issued a campus alert at san jose university. lorraine blanco tells us this warning involves a groper and it was inside a dorm. >> reporter: yes it was inside joe west hall. that's what we are finding out right now. i got off the phone from pat harris. you can see police on campus right now apparently they are searching the area looking for the suspect. they sent out a tweet just after 5:00 a.m. describing the suspect as a male in his 20s wearing black clothing. he tried the doors in joe west entered a room and groped a female victim. they are getting a bunch of calls from witnesses that were around the scene when it happened. apparently it happened around 3:30:00 a.m. and the woman immediately called police as soon as it happened. joe west hall it houses about 650 residence. single and double occupancy rooms. it has first year students, transfer students, returning students. we talked to a student that was in joe west hall at the time. of the incident and he said he was woken up in the middle of the night around
