san jose. thank you anthony. let's move on now. he was known as the grandfather of american judo, a san jose state coach who helped build the sport hasied. coach yoshi yoshida was 104 years old over the course of 70 plus years, he turned san jose state into a judo powerhouse. coach yoshida also led the charge to make judo an olympic sport really is a global legend here. he also established the first collegiate national championships. the building where the san jose state judo team practices is named after him. we spoke with coaches and former students about his impact. i'm grateful he was the greatest man i've ever known, and i'm grateful for the lessons that he taught me and my goal now my job, now my duty is to, is to use this to impact the next generation in the most positive of ways. and if i can be half the man that he was, then i've accomplished something with my life. amazing what he's done for san jose state and the olympic movement. coach yoshida's daughter tells us. the family appreciates all the love and all the support. they're holding a private service for him tomorrow. all right, let's take a live look outside in san fr

san francisco wednesday night, 19 year old luis manuel arguello street inglés was a student at san jose statenbc bay area's marianne favro was on the campus with more on how his family and friends are remembering him. luis was a freshman here at san jose state. he was studying communications. his father says. he was also working to become a paramedic to fulfill his dream of becoming a san francisco firefighter. after an altar in dolores park, a bench covered with flowers and photos, and more people arriving to honor a life cut short. luis manuel arguello street ingles was just 19 years old when he was shot several times and killed on dolores street wednesday night, as san francisco police try to find his killer, his father says the loss of his son has left a void in the family's heart that can never be filled. irving arguello street was too distraught to talk on camera, but tells us his son was born in san francisco, was a good student, and graduated from lowell high school. his passions included weight training and tai martial arts. his father told us luis was smart, humble and kind hearted.

the large statues of tommie smith and john carlos are the centerpiece of san jose state's campus. it portrays the iconic moment at the 1968 olympics, where the student athletes each raised a black gloved fist on the podium. what they did was remarkable in so many ways. i mean, there were 22, 23 year old and put everything on the line to make this statement. they were the first public sculptures by the artist known as rigo 23. he's back on campus this week for the statue's most complete restoration yet. i feel like so honored to be a small part of this history. the 22 foot tall statues are covered in a mosaic of tiles. some or faded over time. they wanted to update it in time for the 20th anniversary of the unveiling next year. this came out good ■christian. the attention to detail is evident in every inch, and rigo says as a nod to silicon valley, he used 3d scanning technology to get scans of smith and carlos. they stood in the position and had this laser beams shot at them, and then we had a 3d virtual model of their bodies retook the pose. so emotionally, i imagine it was prett

he was a lowell high school graduate and san jose state university student.police say he was shot multiple times wednesday night. the family of his started a go fund me page, saying in part, luis was a bright light in our lives filled with love, laughter and boundless potential. his loss has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled. a memorial was held today for a man who was shot and killed by sunnyvale police friends and family gathered to remember the life of emanuel perez. today would have been his 20th birthday. often shot perez on march 23rd at a mobile home park on vienna drive. they say they were called to the area for reports of a partially naked man with a knife. police later released this dash cam video of the confrontation, showing perez ignoring multiple commands from officers. at one point, he runs towards an officer who opens fire. police also revealed perez was the one who made the 911 call today. an attorney for the perez family announced they are taking steps to file a lawsuit against the sunnyvale department of public safety. >> w

he was a graduate of lowell high school, and he was a freshman at san jose state. are still looking for the gunman. new video tonight that shows a person of interest in a hate crime case out of san francisco. sfpd released this video today. you see that person there wearing all black, carrying what appears to be a paper bag. police say that video is from may fifth. that's the day that terry williams was popular dog walker in san francisco says he received a package with racist messages. the package included a doll with a noose around its neck, and it was at his home on grove street. he also received a similar package back in april. then a few weeks later, a fire gutted williams home while he was at a san francisco city hall meeting to discuss those hate crimes. his elderly parents were actually home at the time, and luckily they were able to get out of the house okay, but the fire did destroy all of williams's possessions. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. if you recognize that guy with the package, you are urged to call sfpd. an investigation is
