[music] safe sex and sexually transmitted infections. these are two topics that many young people are having trouble discussing. not a discussion for the dinner table and often not in front of young people. but some california organizations want to erase the stigma that has been put on sti testing. and most importantly they want to enable serious conversations about sexual partners. raven swayne begins our coverage. welcome back to this edition of equal time. our focus today is on sexually transmitted infections among youth. let's meet our guests. hi, my name is erica everly and i'm a child and adolecent development major at san jose state university. hi my name is sandra gregory, i'm a peer health educator in the sexual wellness specialty here at san jose state. hi i'm nina calderon, and i am a consumer intern at the lgbtq youth space. hi my name is jacob peinado, and i'm the lead for the sexual wellness for peer health education

. >>> the president of san jose state university is now back on campus to address a disturbing discovery inside two dorms. kpix 5's maria medina has an update on the search for the swastika suspect. >> reporter: the san jose state university president cut her trip short in southern california to return to campus after learning about two swastikas and hate messages? two dorms including washburn hall. >> some people are offended by it. >> reporter: suzie is just one of the many freshmen who live in washburn hall where someone formed a swastika using dorm stickers. what did you think when you saw it? >> i ignored it because i thought it was some stupid kids messing around. >> reporter: but university leaders are not ignoring the incident and, in fact, campus police are investigating two swastikas found tuesday afternoon. the second drawn with a marker in a common area and another nearby dorm. both symbols found next to hate messages. during your investigation so far do you believe it was a student behind this? >> we are continuing to investigate. >> reporter: san jose state's spokesman says

. >>> san jose state university the scene of a hate crime tonight. swast swast and hateful -- swastika and hateful language found. betty yu is on campus and classes just got started? >> reporter: that's right. school has only been in session for about a month and at least one swastika found on a door in a public area. officials say it was made out of name tag stickers. tonight the school held a forfrom students who live -- formal for students who live in the residential halls. the goal was to create a space where students could come together and talk about race issues. the second swastika appeared in campus village. also with hate messages next to it. the school's office was brought on to tackle cases like this and ensure a such a welcoming environment for students. today -- safe welcoming environment for students. >> to really focus on, you know, being able to listen well to students so students can feel validated. >> very sad seeing that. the fact that i came just for the diversity and seeing other people being so hateful to different races like th

san jose state are upset after finding swastikas being discovered into resident halls. >> janine de la vega is live this morning on campus to tell us what action san jose state university is planning to take, good morning.>>reporter: good morning, yes the university is investigating and they want to find out who put up the swastikas and hateful language, both were found in freshman dorms. university staff met with students from both of those storms last night to talk about what happened and address their concerns. the swastikas were found tuesday night and one simple was found on the door of the third floor of washburn call and it was made out of name badge stickers and the other was drawn on a whiteboard and the common area of a sweet the campus village and hateful slurs were written alongside both of the swastikas. everything has been removed for students or shaken up. >> i do not want to have people take it further, i want people to start getting hurt or people transferring out because they feel unsafe. it doesn't make me feel right or safe.>> they need to do something about it so people don't think it is okay. >> san jose state university president was in long beac

two san jose state university students are waiting to find out their punishment after they confessed to being responsible for two separate swastika displays. abc 7 has more live from the campus. chris? >> reporter: and sadly, allegations of racism aren't anything new on this campus. you might recall the case involving three white students who were expelled for bullying their black roommate. since then, a new president has been hired as well as a new kpeef diversity officer. some wonder, though, if the changes are enough. many students at san jose state university were stunned after two swastikas were found on display in two different residence halls. >> i can't imagine how they felt when they saw the swastikas. that is crazy. >> reporter: campus police announced this afternoon that two male students confessed to being responsible for the hateful acts but say the cases are unrelated. >> i don't want to go too much into motivation. i think it was characterized by both as a joke in essence. >> reporter: according to police, one student formed a swastika out of nametags at washburn hall

this morning students at san jose state university of dealing with the aftermath of a hate crime. tikas discovered at two dorms along with hateful language. matt is at san jose state. >> san jose state president is in southern california attending meetings but she sent a message back here to the campus community saying she was both sad bed and outraged about the news. this incident took place in two dorms here on campus, washburn hall and campus village, primarily housing first year students. the san jose mercury news said one swastika was written in the condition area of a campus village suite. at washburn hall nametags were removed from the dom used to make another swastika put in a hallway and a room window. hateful language accompanied both swastikas. this is after three former san jose state students were convicted of misdemeanor bait try but acquitted of hate crime charges of putting a bicycle lot around a roommate's neck in 2013. the officials are investigating this incident. >> there is a new study on childhood obesity that could treat the condition. gut back tear is import

tonight, the name plate hangs outside his office door, but his future with san jose state university is uncertain, after a student accused him of sexual harassment. >> i was shocked that we didn't know too much about it. >> the students deserve the right to feel comfortable and safe in their environment, whether they're undergraduates, graduates. even employees. you shouldn't have to have that hanging over your head. >> reporter: according to a report from the bay area news group, the education professor allegedly asked a student if she was single, and made comments she wanted to date her during class last year. students tell us, he was chair of the college education's education department last year, but suddenly stepped down. in the wake of the report, the president issued these statements, including we will take systematic actions based on what we learn. over the phone alyssa stewart says her client denies the allegation, and called the investigation process flawed. she said evidence refuting the student's claims weren't taking seriously. >> another witness, in quote, it was a plea

university with reaction to that tonight. len. >> reporter: allen, there are really two areas of concern here at san jose state tonight. first, the harassment case itself. secondly, how the university handled it and whether or not it did an adequate job of letting students know. it's not exactly the talk on campus but some students say that's the problem. >> i don't think a lot of people know what's going on. i haven't heard anyone else talking about it and it came out a couple of days ago. >> reporter: she is talking about sexual harassment allegations against a san jose state professor. according to the "san jose mercury news," the professor who taught counseling education repeatedly asked a female student if she was single. he was allowed to stay in the classroom and serve as a department head for five months even after a campus investigation concluded his comments were inappropriate. >> i didn't even know about that. so yeah. i think that we should be like more aware of the student on campus. >> reporter: that led to criticism of how the university handled it. today the school declined to comment but last night, the
