arriving at san jose's civic center inside buddhist theme service honoring the life of kevin machida. he began his law enforcement career not long after graduating from sac state university, diminutive in size, but having the heart of a giant garnered the nickname the energizer bunny for always being on the go. first job was with the oakland housing police , but he also worked in san jose and ultimately retired from the coma. police department in 2018. 56 year old was shot while protecting a cron for reporter in oakland a day before thanksgiving. he died days later due to his injury. kevin had the perfect balance of enforcing laws in helping the community and whichever he could to improve their quality of life. i know kevin is so grateful. for everyone being here today. and we are. too 56 year old leaves behind grandchildren, children and you just heard from his wife and best friend, gina. and she just body has already been cremated. after the service. two limos carried the family and his urn from the civic center. there is a private memorial at their home later tonight. we'll have much more on this service coming up in the five o'clock news now. jesse gary ktvu fox two
