that's san jose state university political science professor melynda jackson. said if biden does heed the calls to drop out before the democratic national convention that begins on august 19th. the delegates that are currently pledged to support biden, which is about 4000 of them, would be released to vote for whoever they want. and then there would be probably a small number of, democrats competing for their votes. jackson says many democratic lawmakers are hedging in their support of biden. like bay area congressman mark desaulnier, who said he is behind biden as a nominee but also said there are legitimate conversations about the importance of this election and added, given the stakes and the timing of the election, i'd encourage the president to make this decision as soon as possible. meantime, representative eric swalwell said on july sixth, donald trump should step aside. he's a convicted felon, a fact that won't matter, says gop supporters, so long as biden remains on the ticket. the president was a gaffe machine before he became cognitively compromised.
