jessica flores is live at the san leandro bart station on what these cost saving measures could mean for riders. >> reporter: kenny, we have been talking to a lot of riders this morning. they are not happy about some of the proposals on the table. one of those proposals would be cutting service before 5 a.m. now, bart could be facing a deficit of anywhere between $25 million to $35 million in the coming year. and the proposals to close the gap are coming at a time when fares are already going upset to increase 2.7% next year. and last fall voters approved a $3.5 billion bond measure to improve the aging bart system. but bart directors say riders won't be seeing major fixes from measure rr money for at least two years. in the meantime, bart says they are facing rising costs and reduced revenue. here's some of the proposals. starting weekday service at 5 a.m. instead of 4 a.m. cutting the youth senior disabled discounts from 62.5% to 50%. and adding a 50-cent surcharge to paper tickets so that would affect people who don't use the clipper cards and they are also considering cutting 15

task force to try and address this crime trend....using investigators from oakland, hayward and san leandro pd as well as alameda county juvenile probation. a frightening scene in fairfield three seprate firebombs set off around town. the first one, in an apartment complex off on north texas street in fairfield. then about an hour later, an explosion when someone threw a firebomb at a car on thames court in fairfield. then around 1am, dispatchers heard a loud noise in front of the fairfield police department. 39-year-old michael scott jones is in custody for attempted murder and hate crimes. they say surveillance video from the cameras near the police department spotted jones. neighbors say the entire ordeal has been alarming. 2:51 it could have been so bad, we have families and children, whole lives could have been ruined. the man who lived in the apartment is african american, jones is white. neighbors say jones had previous fights with the victim allegedly calling him racial slurs. no one was hurt in any of the bombings. police say there are no other outstanding suspects in this case.
