the san martin airport is here. the plane landed here which means they had to tow it northbound, exit the freeway and get back on the other direction for a total distance of 4 1/2 miles. what a drive it turned out to be. the pickup truck towing the plane went at about the pace of a leisurely stroll. when it came time to merge back on the freeway, the chp ran a traffic break and yes, the backup was horrendous. across the wide lanes of 101 the plane could actually make good time but once on surface streets crews often had to unhook the plane and wiggle it through by hand to get past traffic signs, mailboxes and fences sometimes with inches to spare. what do you think of this? >> it don't bother me. i done know why they didn't tow it across the field. >> reporter: the slow motion plane with emergency vehicles through the santa clara countryside was surreal. ever see anything like this? >> no. not at all. it's crazy. this is amazing. >> reporter: the pilot was okay. no one on the ground was injured. there was no damage
