but now this shelter in san martin is running out of options. joining me to talk about this is lisa jenkins, program manager for santa clara county animal services center in san martin. thank you so much for being with us. so what do you think is happening? is it just that people are going back to work or there is the cost and there is the inflation, or they're losing their jobs? why do you have so many animals, all of the sudden? >> yeah, thanks for having me. there are a lot of theories circulating about why this is occurring. we don't know for certain, but we know that we're seeing animals, particularly dogs coming in in numbers that we have never seen before. i've been working in the animal sheltering industry for 15 years, and i've never seen it like this. one of the theorys is, you know, access to spay-neuter services are very hard to come by these days. the costs to get a dog spayed-neutered is probably ten times what it was prepandemic. so those who took dogs into their family expecting to pay $200, $300 for a spay are now faced with a t

we are below freezing in santa rosa. 32 in san martin. potential of some freezing fog. all of this humidity in the air and visibility near zero could deposit a layer of ice on elevated bridges and roadways. in san jose it's frosty. temperatures in the upper 30s now. we'll be in the mid-30s throughout the rest of the morning and then seeing it slowly warming up with all of that sunshine. only heading into the mid-50s for later today. 53 in martinez. we'll see more temperatures like that as we go into the rest of the week and even this weekend. >>> we have two major incidents. that traffic alert continues. instead of two lanes open we have one lane closed. as they cleared the third lane more traffic kicking in. there's more traffic on both of those highways and then some folks would use monterey to get over here and they get over to the 101 north of all of this. a deadly crash at seven trees and the investigation continues there as well. look on the right side, a horrible scene. a deadly crash investigation. back out to the maps and showing

and now we've gotten about an inch of rain in novato and as well as san martin.miss, some of us has barely measured anything. and it is a lot more for parts of the north bay where novato has 1.14. and nearing a tenth of an inch in san francisco. but still coming down mostly from marin county. we see another wave of rain coming in, but it makes the commute sloppy on 101. and south county, right now we've seen breaks in the rain but earlier it was pouring heavily and there is another wave coming over the santa cruz mountains heading your way in the next hour or so. still seeing low pressure. that is causing all of the rain spinning right over the bay area. and you can see the rotation there. and so we'll see it hit or miss for the next few hours. but it will be more of a mist going into the afternoon. but at 2:30, while the rest of the bay area is getting a bit of sun, san jose may get some rain. so still that chance for the evening. and it all clears out tonight. tomorrow looking dry. and thursday the next round of rain will be coming in, so not done with the wet

san martin could see mid 60s tomorrow. ar san francisco and still low 50s around fairfield with that east wind bringing in some fog. so as we move forward during the day, we'll see a chance of a few sprinkles on wednesday. the best chance of showers could be thursday evening into friday. you're seeing more there in the futurecast. thursday night into early friday. a chance of a few showers early. as we head toward the start of the weekend, what's left of the shower chances should lift to the north as in north of sonoma county by saturday morning. and then continue moving northward on sunday. so a check of the weekend temperatures. mostly mid 60s on saturday. christmas eve day. and then christmas day, near 70 around south san jose. into san marine and gilroy. mid 60s around san francisco and oakland. i want to point out. a very different story to the east. we're talking highs in the single digits. ohio, kansas city, st. louis, look at dallas, ft. worth, in the 20s as you head into saturday. that cold air heads east. highs in

morgan hill and san martin, even around the east bay valleys. we should manage mid to upper 50s. there is technically a chance of seeing a few sprinkles. tomorrow and around the north bay, look at the mostly sunny skies south of san francisco. again, this first weather system really doesn't have a lot of moisture to work. with as we fast forward over to thursday, it looks a little better. there is a chance we could see a few scattered showers. thursday night into friday mornin as we move forward, we will see the shower chances lift to the north. as we watch lake county, saturday morning, you may see a few showers sticking around before it heads to the north. as we head toward christmas day on sunday, let's look at the temperature regression. by friday, we should be looking at mostly low 60s. and then saturday now. we're looking at mid to upper 60s south of san jose. saturday football. it looks pretty good. overcast skies, temperatures around kickoff time, in the mid to upper 60s. as we head toward christmas day, let's look at that forecast. morgan hill southward. there is your ch

dublin right now at 31 degrees and it's 32 in san martin. so as we start out with the cold temperatures, we are also going to have those freeze warnings that will be in effect through about 9:00 in the morning. the freeze warnings do include all of these areas shaded in purple and once again that will be in effect through 9:00. it's going to be a cool day and we're also watching out for patchy, dense fog. when you have freezing temperatures and a lot of moisture in the air, that can deposit ice on elevated bridges and roadways. watching out for that around the area of novato. mike, you're starting out with two significant crashes. >>> for the south bay here to san jose. the first crash is a deadly crash, the 62nd fatality we're told, and it occurred on capital expressway, actually right at seven trees boulevard. there's an investigation that's continuing there. you can get to monterey. center road will take you around in either direction. 101, highway 101, this is an issue as well. this crash involves a big rig and i believe it spilled diese

we're back to some of the same weather tomorrow, even seeing a couple of 60s on the map for san martinanta cruz also reaching about 60 degrees for tomorrow. on sunday, the temperatures cool down a bit, with some spots like mart nas in the lower 50s. and san francisco in the lower 50s. so, not too much of a change here. but there is a lot going on to shop local, support local businesses, in downtown mountain view. there is going to be a super saturday event there. the temperatures reach into the mid 50s. it's going to be sunny throughout the day, but you will be keeping that jacket on for much of the day. and then you'll want to bundle up for the sunday hanukkah festival happening in brentwood. a lot of hanukkah celebrations going on around the bay area. we're going to be at 52 degrees at 4:00 when it begins. look at those temperatures dropping off. make sure you're prepared. we're going to see a lot more cold weather dipping into parts of the midwest. that's going to be the thing that we talk about, that plunge of polar air makes it all the way to the gulf. we're not going to see much
