a person and a dog are dead after a fire broke out in san pablo. the contra costa fire protection district says the fire started in a duplex when firefighters arrived. one unit was up in flames. fire officials say while mitigating a live power line, crews made a quick and aggressive attack on the fire while searching the building. one person and one dog were found unresponsive inside the residence. no word yet on how the fire started. some community members and activists in alameda county are calling for officers in several controversial police shootings to be criminally charged. they held a block party tonight to spread the word and to build support. harrington was there and has the story. dozens gathered at lake merritt in oakland for a block party. organizers called a justice in july event. they called on alameda county district attorney pamela price to hold police officers accountable for police shootings and in-custody deaths . we expect her to charge the cops who killed our loved ones. the event was organized by the families of mario gonzalez

firefighters battled a two alarm house fire in san pablo early this morning. contra costa county fire posted video of the two story house fire. this was around 4:00 in the morning on madeline road. the house was unoccupied at the time. steep slope behind the house along with a lot of smoke, provided what firefighters call challenging conditions. the flames were knocked down within a couple of hours. the cause of that fire is not yet known. people in southern california or southern santa clara county were woken up this morning by a light earthquake. the usgs reports the magnitude 3.6 quake rattled the morgan hill area about 20 miles south of san jose. it hit at 6:49 a.m. no reports of any damage. firefighters put out a small brush fire in napa county this afternoon. the fire started on sanatorium road in the community of deer park near saint helena. cal fire says the fire was contained to just about an acre thanks to a quick response from firefighters. cal fire will remain on scene for a while watching for any hotspots. the cause of this fire is not yet known.
