here is a live look at the scene near 7th street and grayson, west of san pablo avenue.icers in the area. this happened before 5:30 this morning. investigators say officers responding to a crime in progress when that shooting occurred. one person was taken to the hospital, is in critical condition. roads are still shut down at this time. if you're going to be in the area or plan to go in that area, you are being asked to avoid it until that investigation is complete. >>> also breaking, oakland police involved in not one, but two collisions overnight. the first one happened a little before midnight when an officer heading east on 24 lost control of their patrol car, crashing into a pole. that officer was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. the chp officer told our photographer on scene that rain played a factor. less than two hours later, a second crash happened at the same location. this time, two cars traveling eastbound collided, one of the cars ended up on its side, partially on top of another oakland police cruiser. this was a vehicle that responded to

if you're not familiar, this is a light industrial neighborhood in berkeley located between san pablo and i-80. one witness says off camera he heard several gunshots. police confirmed to us that, yes, they did shoot a suspect. that suspect was taken to highland hospital where they later died. that was this morning. two other suspects who were not shot have been taken into custody. were any of them armed? >> we don't have that information at this time. >> why did your officers feel the need to fire? >> i don't have that information. >> reporter: now, you're looking at the vehicles involved. it's hard to tell, but we believe one of the vehicles was the vehicle in question that was being stolen. it looks like it's up against a berkeley police vehicle. we are looking at report that one of the suspects actually rammed that berkeley police car, which then prompted the shooting. no officers were hurt. more than one officer has been taken back to the station to be interviewed about what happened, which is not unusual. it's not clear how many officers fired their weapons. the alameda county di
