christie smith is live in san rafael with the look at some of the damage. these are vegetation fires, right? >> reporter: yes. that's exactly right. we're not talking about one but three suspicious fires in just one night. i wanted to show you how close this came to a car dealership over there. if steve can swing around you can see the ashes. this is all that's left this morning. it burned almost all the way up to a fence where there is also an old border's book store. there are two other burn spots along the railroad tracks this morning that run behind buildings in a mostly industrial area. the san rafael firefighters were called out after 9:00 a.m. and found tall grass burning in spots. this is near a possible homeless encampment. there are clothes and shoes left here along the tracks. the fires were put out quickly and the cause is under investigation but 3 are all considered suspicious. this follows a string of fires in the past month on june 14th. a transient woman was arrested on suspicion of setting fires near a homeless area. before that on may 22,

san rafael now going over an inch of rain with this storm system. you can see san francisco, .78 inch and close to an inch around richmond. even san jose, a lot more rain than anticipated, i have to say, for the santa clara valley to get a half inch of rain, all of these record-breakers from north to south, very unusual for this time of year. we're still seeing most of the moisture hung up around the east bay and south bay. you can see especially along 680 heading toward the altamont pass, you're seeing pretty good downpours. you notice here west, toward san francisco, some of that rain starting to let up, mainly lighter rain now around the peninsula and into san jose. you can still see pretty good downpours especially heading toward morgan hill and gilroy. this is where the cold front is now. slowly exiting the bay area. behind it, cold, unsettled air aloft that will come through tonight. even as the sun goes down, it's not out of the question that we may have a slight chance of thundershowers for tonight. tomorrow, isolated hilltop showers still pr
