the san ramon community center will stay open through 9 p.m. on thursday. and the cooling centers could also be a good way to avoid using electricity in your home. officials are issuing a "flex alert" asking you to conserve during peak hours today. 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. pg&e says all the extra air- conditioning use is strange the system causing massive blackouts. the worst we saw on sunday when 40,000 people across the bay area at the height of it were left without electricity. the california independent system operator which oversees the power grid is asking residents to set their thermostats to 78 or higher, cool homes with fans and drapes, turn off unnecessary lights and appliances, and use major appliances in the morning or late evening. >> appliances, electronics, that all makes up for about half of our usage in an average home in california. >> reporter: the "flex alert" tips are all voluntary. but again, they are asking folks to conserve today to try to avoid some of those blackouts that we saw sunday and that we continue to see through monday and tuesday

( mark ) the parents of an east bay teenager are suing the san ramon unified school district. the teen made a controversial video while running for student body president. the school district says that the video showed images of terrorists. the school district temporarily removed the student from his post as the student body president. he was eventually reinstated. the attorney for the parents released a statement to kron 4 saying the school acted unconstitutionally and punished the student for expressing his ideas. the school district has not commented on the lawsuit. ( mark ) a wallet thief and credit card fraud suspect known for targeting bay area yoga studios has struck again. police have identified the suspect as christopher newton. they say this time he is suspected of stealing from people at the 'just-be-yoga' studio in walnut creek. police say they captured him on surveillance video. investigators say that newton is likely targeting small fitness studios because of the low security profile.

(vicki) the student accused of filming a classmate using the bathroom at san ramon valley high school... has been expelled. the incident happened back in november - when the 16- year-old year old victim was filmed in a bathroom stall after cross country practice - by a fellow athlete. the girl who shot the video then posted it on social media... but it was not discovered untiapril. the teen was suspended for three days - but was then allowed to return to class. the parents of the victim criticzed school officials for not doing enough to punish the teen. today - the school district announced she will no longer be allowed to return to the san ramon valley school district. (vicki) in livermore... police are dealing with a major problem... a string of car rip-offs. in the first five months of this year... 165 vehicles have been stolen... 48 of the stolen cars were found in livermore and 98 were found throughout the bay area and the central valley. so far police have arrested 13 different people for stealing or possessing stolen vehicles. the livermore police department is working with the
