three southbound lanes of 680 are closed between al costa boulevard and san ramon, and the five 8680 interchange in pleasanton, one northbound lane also is closed. this is all part of that ongoing project to repave 680 caltech lanes is filling potholes, fixing deteriorated pavement. unlike other weekend closures, we've been reporting this one isn't a full closure. the two right lanes of southbound 680 remain open, as well as the rest of the northbound lanes, but caltrans is still recommending that drivers stay away. it does tend to get congested, and so even again, though, there are those two lanes open, three are closed. so if at all possible, please do avoid the area. alternate routes include taking 780 or highway four or highway 24. caltrans will reopen by 4 a.m. for the morning commute. san francisco mayor london breed is officially running for mayor again. breed was at multiple events yesterday, one of them a kickoff for her reelection campaign. we spoke with the mayor at a car show where she spoke to us about her goals for a second term. breed tells us she will push for a fully

reporting live in san ramon, velena jones nbc bay area news. the closures are necessary, but they are painful. all right, thank you. velena families forced to leave their north bay homes after a giant tree just fell on two condos happened this morning at 1140 in novato on cinnamon teal lane and puffin court. look at that. it's giant. and that oak tree just split in half and hit two condos. the buildings red tagged. we don't know when the families will be able to go back to their homes. the tree also broke a gas line. so pg and e evacuated at least eight surrounding homes for a few hours while they capped that leak. i mean, luckily no one was hurt when the tree hit the building. not clear though, what caused that tree to split up. it is going to be another weekend of sunshine for us. let's give you a live look. you can see it right there of san jose and san francisco. a lot of people have weekend plans, not on 680, hopefully including thousands headed to san francisco for the bay to breakers. chief meteorologist jeff ranieri joins us. okay. it i

this evening on 6.80, near san ramon valley boulevard. and we're told the person who barricaded themselves inside the car had been involved in a car and a crash with another car. you can see in these pictures here from the caltrans cameras that there was a backup near bolinger canyon road. chp was called in to get this person into custody. we later discovered that he did not have a gun. san ramon police chief says they brought out a big armored vehicle called out for him through a loudspeaker. that man then got out. chp arrested him. the lanes reopened around 7 o'clock tonight. but of course, there's still a lot of traffic in that area. san jose man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for forcing his partner into trafficking. monterey county prosecutors say courtney davenport beat his girlfriend and forced to engage in acts for his financial gain. salinas police say they were tipped off when the victim called them in february of last year. the victim telling police her boyfriend davenport struck her in the eye because she refused to

i know you got a chance to speak with that team from san ramon. what did they say to you? it must be so cool for them. it is. and i did get a chance to meet it. they're from dougherty valley high school in san ramon, and they're called the dv explorers, and hence the name in the high school. right now, what they told me was this took them about ten weeks. so it was a lengthy process. but a lot of these students are already involved in other teams. so we're talking extracurricular activities, not only that, but they also were preparing for ap exams. so they're busy students, right? they said the efforts to meet, they said they ended up collaborating. oftentimes they had to meet, you know, via zoom and with their teachers within the classrooms. but it you know, i'm very grateful that they took time to chat with us. and i asked them about the main challenges that they faced, you know, what their biggest takeaway was. and then, of course, their teacher involved, teacher appreciation week. and their teacher told me what it was like working with her students. check it out. so th

a partial closure of 680 is underway in the san ramon area this weekend. nbc bay area's christie smith has more on the road work ahead and the impacts on drivers. reporter we're a full day into this partial closure of southbound 680, and this is an area that can get congested on an ordinary day. so for the time being, drivers are being urged to find another route. we just try to avoid that's what this driver is doing to try to steer clear of roadwork on 680 near san ramon. else you are just stuck in this traffic and nobody wants to spend the weekend sitting in the traffic. this is what it looked like today, with work happening on a section of the existing roadway. that's well worn. there's potholes, as you say, deteriorated pavement. it's definitely in need of some enhancement. janice mara is with caltrans. the purpose of the partial closure is to remove deteriorated pavement and replace it. so when we reopen at 4 a.m. on monday, there will be a smooth ride for motorists. that means this weekend, caltrans has closed three southbound lanes of 680 between al
