fires in downtown san jose last month, the biggest was a warehouse fire that caused an estimated 5 million dollars in damage, if convicted he could spend the rest of his life behind bars, san jose firefighters have voted to ratify a contract with the city that maintains a 10% pay cut. the contract extends the pay cut and benefit reductions that firefighters agreed to three years ago but only through june of this year. firefighters say they are going to demand a new agreement in july to restore the pay and some emergency medical services that were cut. the contract extension now goes to the city council for final approval. >>> the search for a killer in the south bay after a man was stabbed to death outside of the fairmont hotel in san jose, what one witness reported seeing just before the stabbing. >>> a warning for airlines headed to russia as the sochi olympics get underway, the common household product officials say could be a bomb in disguise. >>> the department of homeland security is warning airlines to be on the lookout for smuggled explosives as the winter olympics get underway, we have this report on the common household item that could be used to make bombs. >> r

santa rosa versus san francisco versus san jose. look at san jose. most of this fell yesterday but only .8." downtown san francisco .9." look at santa rosa. creeping up on 5" or 7 times as much rain as we have seen in the south bay from this storm. so a huge disparity. santa rosa one of the lower spots in sonoma and marin counties. some other rainfall totals to show you. petaluma 3.5". ukiah 3." vacaville 2.25." 1" pittsburg. sunnyvale .66." union city less than two-thirds of an inch. let's talk about the north bay where that heaviest rainfall is falling. since january of 2013 the past 13.5 months, 30 inches we're down. we're down 30" of rainfall. this weekend we'll see on average 3 to 8" of rain making up about 10 to 25% of that rainfall deficit. that's good but we're not going to end the drought. we are just going to put a dent into it. now, coming up in a few minutes, we'll have more on weather. brian will have more on that. i'm going to talk about snow in the sierra because we have great news to report from there. that's coming up in a few minutes

san jose. santa clara county fifth for its large homeless population behind new york, l.a., seattle and san diego. it's a problem and one that the san jose city council is turning to motels to help solve. a survey found those on the street say they can't afford housing, too expensive. motel owners struggling with empty rooms say this idea would work for them. vouchers would be give tune the homeless to use at the motels where they receive discounted rooms, they would have to pay 35% of their income toward that room. currently other low income residents have similar deals such as san jose state students and local restaurant workers. the program would cost about 1 million of its $3 million homeless services budget. not a new idea, similar programs are in place where the homeless are living in studio hotels. that pulled 9,000 off the street. back to you. >> thank you. >> let's go to christie smith live at stanford where convenience stores phasing out tobacco sales. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. this is at stanford university where the university says they have been talking about do
