these pictures show the aftermath of a fiery crash into seven parked cars on west steel street in san sta rosa. witnesses describe a sound like a bomb and a huge fire. >> i heard a huge smash. instantly looked up and right over here, a car was a huge fireball, instantaneous. >> reporter: police say the dodge charger that crashed here was stolen and that owners interrupted the theft and chased the driver with speeds reaching up to 100 miles per hour. witnesses say it sounds like the owners maybe tried to confront the driver. >> i heard angry voices. >> reporter: the car was stolen from riana street and it's not the first time thieves have targeted this street. >> on the 1st of january, somebody tried to break into my hummer in my driveway around 3:20 in the morning. >> reporter: wayne bernard is a chp officer and he was able to hold the man until police could arrest him. he says he would advise others not to chase the thief. >> leave it to the pros. i've seen fatalities out of vehicle pursuits before and it's not worth it. >> reporter: the driver of the stolen car in this case was ejected
