a very big deal for bernie sanders.and they are really using that, making the case, of course, that easy electable because he can get all of the money from small donations. but i think right now the big thing for the bernie sanders camp is all about turnout. he has said and he said at the white house a few days ago that he believes that if he's able to get a big turnout in iowa, he'll win the caucuses and that's very big for him because he's doing very well in new hampshire. the question, of course, for bernie sanders is whether he's going to be able to get those small, young voters out to the caucuses. this is where hillary clinton conceivably could have an advantage because her voters have been to this rodeo before. a lot of the people who are supporting bernie sanders are new at this, if you will, john. so big questions as we go into the last day. i can also tell you that on social media and in other places, we're seeing a lot of strategy papers floating around among the supporters of bernie sanders to try to give pe

sanders answer is illuminating. saying the chance of getting reparation through congress is nil, a correct observation which would apply to much of the senator's own platform. articles, commentary immediately followed. while the sanders' campaign declined to comment. early on in his campaign, bernie sanders had some run-ins with black lives matter activists. since then, i think his campaign would argue, even well before then, he has been working very, very hard to bring voters of color into the fold. sanders is doing very well in predominantly white iowa. but he cannot win in a democratic primary without a sizeable chunk of voters of color. the campaign has made some gains in the polling among voters of color. but he still trails hillary clinton nationally by some 40 points among nonwhite voters. i spoke with ta-nehisi coates, national correspondent of "the atlantic" and author of "between the world and me." and asked him why he felt moved to write the sanders' piece. >> i simply didn't understand his answer, to be

well, put aside the question of would you rather have bernie sanders as president if bernie sanders could do everything he wanted versus hillary clinton if hillary clinton could do everything they wanted because the fact is neither one of them is going to have that circumstance. they're both going to have to deal with a republican congress. and that congress is going to block nearly any major economic legislation because they want to go in the exact opposite direction. where does the president still have any power? it's in the areas that sanders doesn't talk about. it's not in changing the shape of the economy. it's not in taxes. it's not in spending. it's not in creating jobs programs. and it's certainly not in creating single payer health care. it's in these regulatory measures. it's in using unilateral administrative power, criminal justice reform, and foreign policy. it's in these things that bernie sanders isn't really passionate about. so i'm arguing that taking a big risk on electing someone who's pretty far to the extreme compared to where the party has been before isn't really wo

she leads bernie sanders by 15 points. the story we've been talking about on the democratic side is that sanders is close to clinton in iowa. he appears to be ahead of her by a margin we're not sure by how much he appears to be ahead in new hampshire but when you get beyond those first two states, hillary clinton does enjoy a much larger advantage especially when you get to more diverse states. in new hampshire right now, there are some serious warning signs there for the clinton campaign. also, we have the nbc news online tracking poll for the republican side nationally. not a lot of movement here. this is what we've been seeing for a while. donald trump up near 40% nationally. basically doubling up ted cruz. marco rubio the only other republican to break out into double digits right there. so again, that's basically what we've been seeing nationally and when you look at the early state polls on the republican side, it's closer in iowa. >> thank you very much. let's turn now to president obama who is preparing to deliver
