let's go to nbc's kerry sanders who is outside the courthouse right now. kerry, take us through what happens next. >> reporter: so tonight, michael dunn will go to jail where he's been held. he will go back to jail and he will wait some time now for an actual sentencing because they have to do in florida what's called a presentence investigation. that's the department of corrections will go through and check off some boxes. but as you know, it's likely that he will get 20 years in each of the attempted murders. it will be up to the judge to determine whether that is consecutive or concurrent. if it is consecutive, that's 60 years plus another 15 years for shooting the deadly missile at the vehicle. so that would be basically at 47 years old a life sentence. the prosecutor indicated that she will go back and now consider and it looks like she's very clearly going to impanel another jury, the date will have to be set down the road. and once again bring him up on charges on first-degree murder. while in florida, first-degree murder is a death penalty case, th

nbc's kerry sanders joins me now from outside the courthouse in jacksonville.seems to be some worry that maybe the jury could possibly be deadlocked in this case. >> reporter: well, you have to think at this point with everything they're discussing and looking at that they are pitched in some sort of battle because the charges that they could come back with, they could come back with guilty of first degree murder, second degree murder, it could be manslaughter or it could be not guilty. when you have 12 people on a jury, you have perhaps a lot of different opinions, and that's probably what is being worked out as they're looking at the jury forums. all trials in florida in the criminal division have six jurors except when you have a first degree murder case. so 12 people to come together with a consensus can indeed take some time. and consider that you have a very diverse group of people on this jury. seven women and five men, four are white men, four are white women, two are black women, one is a hispanic man, and one is an asian woman. so you have quite a div

nbc's kerry sanders outside the courthouse in jacksonville, florida.. we haven't heard from them in a while. >> reporter: exactly. and they remain deliberatio deliberations. i think it's important to almost reflect what the judge has said in respect that the jury is taking this very seriously. this is a 12-member jury and a lot of people are looking at this case and looking back at the "stand your ground" case with george zimmerman where he also said it was self-defense and the jury there indeed found that it was self-defense and he was acquitted on those charges. in that case it was about 16 1/2 hours for the jury to deliberate. but the differences in that case, it was a second-degree murder charge. in florida, that's a six-member jury. in this case, it's a first-degree murder charge. so 12 members of this jury are inside that room continuing to discuss their different points. they've asked the judge some questions which indicate they have indeed reached some conclusions on some of the charges. three of the charges are attempted murder because of dunn
