sandhya patel is here for us. >> nothing wrong with loving the fall weather.ou an update on la niÑa. it came out today. cooler than average sea surface temperatures near the equator in the pacific. we have dealt with this three years in a row. i want to show you the prediction for the upcoming winter. typically you have the blocking high pressure. dryer for the southern tier of states. here's what forecasters are saying. 75% chance. continues this winter. december through february. forecasters are saying we transition to neutral conditions between february and april of 2023. but i do want to tell you it extensive studies on the weather, a lot of research and a lot of information on la niÑas. he's going back to the 1950's saying when you think la niÑa, you think it is dry for california. that has not been the case. some really interesting information coming out. obviously it will depend on the severity of la niÑa. whether it is weak, moderate, or strong. the past three years, we have seen drier than average conditions. so we will see what it brings. drought mon

sandhya: we have to talk about the winter outlook.ate protection center issued their outlook for today. la nina, cooler than average conditions near the equatorial pacific, continuing. this morning, the climate prediction center said there will be a moderate la nina continuing this winter. typically high-pressure blocking the storms from getting to the bay area. wetter than average in the pacific northwest. drier in the southern tier states. this is the third winter in a row with a la nina. equal changes of below, near, or above average precipitation in the bay area. it does not tell us a whole lot. we had equal chances. we have the possibility of above average temperatures. these are probabilistic. keep that in mind. we could see some variation. the winter outlook showing pacific northwest getting above average precipitation. central portion of california and the southern tier states getting below average precipitation. of course we are somewhere in between. we could get atmospheric rivers. that could really change things up. we coul
