sandhya. the wharf in capitola took a beating during last year's storms and tonight residents will get to share their thoughts on what it might look like when it reopens this fall. but as abc seven news south bay reporter dustin dorsey explains, it's unclear whether two buildings that have been there for decades will remain the sun may be shining, but storms are still top of mind. >> capitola boat and bait and the wharf house restaurant have never recovered from the damage caused by monster waves. in 2023, the city has deemed these buildings unsafe and they face demolition, devastating. >> yeah, i couldn't believe we were. we had hopes that our building was able to survive and we get news that it's being torn down. we walked off the wharf january third, 2023. >> so it's been about 14 months walking off. >> did you ever think that that might be the last time? >> no. you don't think those things, but that thought may soon be reality for these longtime tenants. >> chloe woodmansee, with the city

for the details, let's go to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. yeah. >> and ama and dan, let's take a look at live doppler seven. right now we have a level two storm that we are tracking. it does have a weak atmospheric river moving in tomorrow that moisture plume extending all the way back towards hawaii. a second storm right behind it that gets in here sunday afternoon into monday. so timing out the first system at 8:00 tomorrow morning. rain begins to move in. it becomes moderate by 11 a.m. in pockets and then intensifies and heavier rain by 3 p.m. you will notice across the region, along with stronger winds, a flood watch has already been issued for sunday morning into wednesday morning as flooding is possible on streams, creeks and roadways, and the concern is the cumulative effect as one storm after another saturates the ground. a high surf advisory goes up. tomorrow. it runs until sunday, and that is because breakers will be up to 28ft in favored locations. level two on our storm impact scale. rain downpours in the afternoon for tomorrow.

let's get to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya it may be even higher by the end of the week. >> i know that sounds crazy. let's take a look at a live picture right now. ama and dan. as we look from our zephyr cove camera. certainly snow over the peaks. statewide snow pack 82% of average. i suspect that in about a week we're going to go well above average now for a m thursday until 10 a.m. sunday. the weather service is saying 5 to 12ft of snow is possible above 5000ft. 1 to 4ft above 3000ft, with those gusty winds up to 60 miles an hour, travel could be very difficult to impossible. giving you a quick look. this may be the heaviest snow of the season, so far. by sunday night, 94in at donner, 98in at kirkwood. taking a look right now at the sierra, they are seeing some snow showers, but it's nothing heavy at this point here in the bay area. did you notice there were some showers that came through a line of showers that passed through earlier today, and that amounted to anywhere from a couple of hundreds to about a 10th of a

sandhya. new developments, a reimagine and wharf is on the horizon for capitola. but it could mean the demolition of two decades old businesses. tonight, residents joined in a town hall asking city leaders to reconsider their decision to tear down those buildings. capitola boat and bait and the wharf house restaurant were wrecked by monster waves during last year's storms. officials have decided to demolish both structures after deeming them unsafe due to extensive damage to the buildings, foundations and walls. relatives of bait and boat owners say their building holds sentimental value, not only is it our business, it is a life for us out there. >> i met my husband out there on that wharf. >> there's no final decision on if the businesses will remain but the wharf is set to reopen this fall. meantime part of niles canyon road in alameda county will be closed until at least friday after a section of the road collapsed in monday's storm. >> the section is between old canyon road and main street near sunol. caltrans says it will assess the damage on friday to deter

abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here. sandy. it's always fascinating to see these things. we don't get to see them around here very often. what is the national weather service saying about it? >> yeah, so dan, this afternoon i spoke with the national weather service and that looks incredible. i'll just tell you this much. and that does look like a funnel to me. but roger, gas from the weather service said several of them saw this on social media and they had multiple reports of this funnel cloud. but later on this afternoon, when the discussion came out, the weather service says, i quote, there is also an unconfirmed report of a tornado that developed northwest of petaluma earlier this afternoon. we're still investigating, so it is not confirmed, but it sure looks like a funnel to me. when you get cold, unstable air, take a look at live doppler seven with the trough you're seeing all this cold, unstable air back behind the atmospheric river that came through. it's not uncommon to get a funnel cloud develop. obviously, they're no

sandhya we're looking at several days of rain. yeah it's a pair of storms that we're talking about and it is going to stretch over days. >> so dan and let's take a look at live doppler seven right now. good evening everyone. it is a level two storm which is stronger than what came through yesterday. let's look at where the rain is falling right now. up to our north we're seeing a few light showers as they get here, but not immediately. so tomorrow night they'll be moving in by saturday morning you start to see some light to moderate rain. it picks up in intensity by 3 p.m. you see those downpours at times continuing at 5 p.m. this is a level two. as i mentioned, rain heavy at times for saturday, wind gusts 20 to 40 plus miles an hour. rough and dangerous surf. and that's not the only storm. there's a second storm that is also a level two due in here. on presidents day. your rain chances you can see they're elevated really right on through the middle of next week. rainfall around the state. we're going to be seeing some heavy rain

sandhya. >> yeah. ama, this is just a taste of what's to come, as you mentioned.o let's look at live doppler seven. this storm is still with us. we are seeing scattered showers across the region. i'm going to get you in closer to where it is raining right now. in the east bay from emeryville to oakland seventh street getting pretty wet around orinda. also from san francisco, really heading into this from the sunset district to san bruno, sneath lane, pacifica. it is a light level one. there were lightning strikes off the california coast, including one just to the west of us, but it didn't make it over land. here's a look at futurecast and you will notice. still a few showers tomorrow morning as the commute begins. but it is going to be really isolated in nature as we take a look at those winds. still gusty 41 miles an hour on mount diablo. it's a one for through early tomorrow morning. scattered showers, slippery roads, gusty and the hills. there's a lot more rain coming as you look at the statewide picture through next wednesday. some areas will be up to a half

sandhya. >> yeah, dan and take a look at the beach hazard statement. it is in effect, as you just mentioned, until 4 a.m. tomorrow. that's because breaking waves up to ten feet, those large swells expected to impact the coast. right now, bodega bay is at 12 and point arena at 11, but the weather service is saying, generally speaking, this is what we're expecting a light level one system is headed our way, and as it does, it's going to begin your morning commute with some showers at 7 a.m. rainfall will increase in coverage and intensity by 10 a.m. you will notice some pockets of moderate rain, even brief heavy rain going into the noontime hour. the winds will pick up 46 miles an hour at 9 a.m. along the coastline, still gusty well into the afternoon, 38 miles an hour point arena. you will notice 33 san rafael, so be prepared for the potential for some more trees going down. not nearly as intense as the storm over the weekend, but it is a one tomorrow. rain moderate at times. gusty large swells and the possibility of snow over our higher peaks. i'll be

meteorologist sandhya patel has more. sandhya. >> yeah, there are two parts to the storm.river. the strongest part of the storm hit us. and now we have the trough. the backside of it. the cold, unstable air. so we're still seeing showers on live doppler seven. this is going to continue through tomorrow. let me get you into street level radar here in the north bay from tiburon, all the way out towards the east bay, richmond, berkeley, 580 san francisco chinatown, marina district. you are getting some downpours. thatrillionain has just been sitting there also around the santa cruz mountains. the summit , saratoga, los gatos area street level radar. you will notice the rainfall. el intensity continues to come down right now. rainfall rates of about a half an inch per hour. and there's more off the coast. flood warning for those smaller streams and creeks still experiencing flooding in the north bay and sonoma county until 7 p.m. that has been extended several times, so do expect it to happen again. it is a level one. we've seen thunderstorms today, not just here in the bay ar

sandhya yeah. >> and it is definitely still wet in parts of the bay area tonight. ama and dan. let's take a look at live doppler seven and we'll talk about what is happening. so we are still tracking some showers. some of those are moderate in intensity around martinez, benicia, pacheco boulevard, clay in concord area. also seeing some wet weather around mill valley, paradise drive, tiburon. so i wouldn't hang up the umbrellas just yet. this afternoon, san francisco at one point had 8000/800 of an inch in just one hour. you can see why that flash flood warning was issued this afternoon as we look around the south bay edenvale, santa teresa boulevard across 85, it is light to moderate rain right now, and there are still some flooding concerns. we have that flood warning in sonoma county that has been extended until 10 a.m. tomorrow. no flooding continues. flood watch for solano county until 4 a.m. tomorrow. as we look at this wider picture, this level two storm continues to trigger some flooding concerns, and thunderstorms have been an issue today. as we go hour by hour, you wil

sandhya we'll check back in the north bay. all eyes are on the skies ahead of storms which are set to drench the bay area. as sandhya has been telling us, first responders are ready for some overtime in p-g-and-e's says it is prepared to respond quickly to power outages. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has a closer look at the preparations. >> p-g-and-e's says it's ready for the next series of storms to hit the bay area. >> we pre-stage a lot of the materials and equipment that might be damaged during a storm. that's stuff like poles, conductors, wires, transformers, megan mcfarland says 1.4 million p-g-and-e's customers lost power during powerful storms earlier this month. >> but this round, the utility doesn't expect a direct hit. >> this storm, you know, rain, winds, low elevation, snow in some areas, but not those heavy sustained winds that can really damage our equipment. >> we've got the candles and the batteries out, but, um, that's kind of the key concern is all the power going down dusty road lives inside the

sandhya >> yeah, it felt good to be outside right? ama and dan. and right now, as we go outside, i do want to show you some live pictures from our tower cameras. you take your pick of the best shot because obviously they're all looking good. uh- skies are pretty clear right now. that changes overnight tonight as an area of low pressure is spinning off the coast. cut off from the main jet stream, but it will be sending us some of those higher clouds out ahead of it. so radar returns off the northern california coast for us. we remain dry for the time being. these clouds will be coming in tomorrow morning and then just thickening throughout the day right now all is quiet here locally. the temperatures in the 40s and the 50s. just a sign that we are still in winter. it is going to get cool tomorrow morning. a gorgeous view from our golden gate bridge camera tomorrow mostly cloudy and milder. saturday we have spring like warmth coming our way and late sunday night into monday the showers will make a return. so let's go hour by hour. tomorrow morning a

sandhya, are we looking at a three on the storm impact scale? >> still are ama and it has the potential to do some damage this weekend. so let's take a look at it on live doppler seven. this moisture associate with the storm the atmospheric river extending all the way back towards the hawaiian islands. you can see that plume developing. with the area of low pressure right there. and that's going to slam into the bay area this weekend. so we do have a number of watches and warnings to pass along. first, a flood watch 4 p.m. tomorrow until 10 p.m. monday. the flooding caused by excessive rain is possible, especially rivers, streams and creeks. low lying roadways and most of the rivers are expected to be okay, but a few may actually reach flood stage or exceed it. we have high wind warnings shaded in pink for a m to 10 p.m. sunday. the rest of the area under wind advisories. those gusts between 50 to 60 miles an hour means trees will go down. power outages are going to happen tomorrow night into sunday. it's a strong level three on our abc seven ne
