abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here. sandhya, what a scorcher. >> yeah.an and ama, this is brutal. this heat wave continues and let's take a look at the highs so far. san jose hitting 104 degrees. these are not the official highs. they don't come down for a little bit longer. but these are the highs so far. livermore 107 san francisco 95 fairfield. triple digits 103. in santa rosa, 97 in oakland. we do have a couple of records coming in right now. i'll wait for the official word, but you can see it's plenty hot around the region. sonoma 100 degrees at this hour. 91 in san mateo. 98 palo alto. 101 in santa rosa. the excessive heat warnings and the heat advisories have been extended until 11 p.m. tomorrow. this is because this heat wave is going to continue. temperatures today up into the upper one hundreds for the hot spots tomorrow mid 90s to mid 100 seconds. we take a look at the heat risk for today. it's major to extreme around the bay and inland. so this is one of those serious heat waves. you definitely have to find either a cooling center ac a fan. s

let's check in with abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. yeah. and ama and dion we are going to see this heat intensify as we head towards tomorrow. let's talk about the temperatures today. it was record setting. san jose tied at 95 degrees. 102 in san rafael. that was a new record. most other areas were in the 70s to 90s, but that is going to change, which is why excessive heat warnings are up for many of our valleys hills, san francisco bay, shoreline, the rest of the region in orange under a heat advisory. this is all going until 11 p.m. wednesday. and that's because the heat risk is going to be in the moderate to major category. you can see this for tomorrow. this pretty much means that the heat is taxing on your body and could make you sick. so you definitely need to take it easy. of course, those that are sensitive might be more prone to getting sick. the air quality has been deteriorating. spare the air was extended through tomorrow as we're expecting moderate to poor air quality. temperatures right now 60 to 80. we're still hanging on to

sandhya, thank you so much. as the storm closes in on the florida coastline, it's raw power has been on display throughout the day. cameras in the tampa area are bouncing in the wind and the water is just angry with waves being churned up. milton is also packing a lot of rain and that could cause extensive flooding. the outer bands of milton produced a tornado outbreak this afternoon. the national weather service issued more than 150 tornado warnings across the state. that's a single day record for florida home surveillance cameras captured an apparent tornado in fort myers. now, if people have not heeded evacuation warnings by now, it is simply too late. stay put. at this point, people are being told to ride out the storm in a safe place. >> i would prefer to be at the house and to be stranded in the middle of the street somewhere where that's just as dangerous when you make that call for help. >> i can't imagine what you would feel when you ask for help, and it's too dangerous and helps not coming. don't be th

sandhya. yeah. ama and dan. let's take a look at milton.w pressure right now. it is a category five in the gulf of mexico. so really, this has been explosively intensifying right now, milton's pressure is at 897 millibars, and it could drop even more. so this is near a record. we are also talking about 180 mile an hour winds, 220 mile an hour gusts moving to the east at ten. now at this point it is expected to remain a potentially catastrophic hurricane category five nearing the yucatan peninsula tomorrow morning, continuing across the warm waters of the gulf of mexico. category four as it approaches the west coast of florida, it is going to be a potentially devastating hurricane for the west coast of florida, eventually weakening once it crosses land there. but let's talk about the rainfall potential up to 15in is expected in isolated locations. you can see parts of the west coast near tampa, five inches or higher. they already have hurricane warnings, storm surge warnings, tropical storm warnings up for that region. and they are talking a

abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is tracking it. sandhya. yeah. ama and dan. it made landfall, as you just mentioned, at 5:30 p.m. near siesta key, florida, which is in sarasota county. it was a category three when it made landfall. let me show you the wider perspective here. they are seeing life threatening storm surge in the area. this is the very latest from the national hurricane center. flash flooding is occurring. they're also seeing extreme winds across this region. looking at live doppler seven, you can see some of the heavier rain moving on shore around the saint petersburg area as well. and a wider perspective indicating just how much they have seen in terms of storm damage in the area. really, they've had multiple reports of flooding and storm damage, 98 to be precise, of flash flooding, wind damage, tornadoes. it is packing winds of 115 miles an hour. when it made landfall, it was 120 mile an hour winds. it is moving to the east northeast now rapidly expected to weaken to a category one, eventually to a tropical storm tomorrow, and then a depressio
