sandhya patel is here. not great news. >> tomorrow, it will be awful again. it will start to improve as we head into the weekend. i want to show you the time lapse. at the time the sun was setting, it was so obvious to see the fun going down because of the smoke from the wildfires out west. that reddish hue is from the smoky skies at sunset at 7:52, which is why a spare the air alert has been issued for tomorrow, unhealthy air quality for parts of the bay area. air quality advisory continues through sunday. and that smoke, along with the marine layer, is impacting visibility. down to six miles at sfo. down to four miles in livermore, tracking a deep marine layer. that means a push towards low clouds. 50s and 60s, the buoy temperatures were in the 60s just a short time ago. 61 degrees right now at half moon bay. so we don't have the strong winds to cause the upwelling of the cold water, so it might be feeling muggy, so dealing with mist and drizzle tomorrow morning. here's a look at the weekend. minor warming expected on saturday. temperatures in the mid 80s.

abc 7 news meteorologist sandhya patel joins us now with the latest on lane. >>> it is still a dangerous hurricane, but it has weakened to a category three. the latest from the central pacific hurricane center. our live doppler 7 is tracking the storm. big island still seeing the rain. it has been up to 19 inches, as you mentioned, this category three storm packing winds of 125 miles an hour. it's 190 miles away from kona, hawaii area. it makes a sharp westward turning weakening to a category one heading towards the weekend. with this storm, warnings and watches are up as you know, and rainfall totals through sunday morning may be up to 30 additional inches of rain. wave heights, 10 to 25 feet, not out of the question, and offshore, over 30 foot waves are expected. so a powerful storm headed towards hawaii, but moving very slowly. kristen is this. >> sandhya, thank you. >>> uncertainty for people who left the bay area on flights to hawaii today. the last chance to get there before the storm really arrived. abc 7 news reporter matt keller has an update from san jose international airport.

let's head to sandhya patel with the latest on the storm. >>> this storm is extremely slow moving, as you just mentioned. it is crawling which is why they've been getting dumped on. take a look at live doppler 7 right now. maximum sustained winds of 105 miles an hour. it is moving north at five miles an hour, 150 miles south of honolulu. as you take a look at the track by 11:00 a.m. tomorrow it's a category 1, just south o it becomes a tropical storm by sunday morning, continuing to weaken. but it's that sharp west turn that it has to make before the weakening continues. rainfall, 10 to 20 inches. isolated up to 40 inches. some parts of the big island already seeing over 30 inches of rain. gusty winds, possibility of tornadoes coming, damaging waves up to 25 feet with that storm surge between two to four feet. biggest threat will continue to remain, the flash flooding and the mudslides. larry? >> thank you, sandhya. obviously it's not exactly paradise given the weather situation. people at bay area airports are still showing up to fly to hawaii. matt keller has that part of the story.

. >> i'm meteorologist sandhya patel. >>> disturbing new details in the disappearance of brian egg of san francisco in a gruesome case. abc7 news reporter vic lee has more on what we are learning about a person of interest in this case. >> reporter: lance silva, person of interest in the case of missing brian egg, alameda county prosecutors say he violated his probation on a grand theft conviction seven years ago. this, after san francisco police arrested him two weeks ago for financial crimes, i.d. theft, and homicide. these charges related to the disappearance of the 65-year-old man who lived in this south of market home. police found a body without a head or hands in a fish tank. but san francisco prosecutors declined to file formal charges, saying the investigation continues. abc7 news obtained this court document, which gives an insight into silva's case. egg's neighbors say he disappeared sometime in june and that they would see strangers coming and going from his house. silva and another man were arrested in mid august after police responded to neighbors' calls that a crime sce
