so let's get right to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. what's coming sandhya? >> yeah. ama, you know, we haven't heard showers in about three weeks as far as measurable rain here. so this is really encouraging. let's first start with our changes that are in the air seven degrees cooler right now in san francisco and mountain view compared to 24 hours ago. the clouds are increasing onshore winds as well. and here comes a system. so we certainly will be seeing the potential for pop up showers. we look at the timing tomorrow morning at 11:00, some of you seeing sun and clouds and you're thinking isolated shower. but then look what happens as we head into the afternoon. just pop up showers around the region, anywhere going into the evening hours. and really, this continues heading into sunday morning as this system comes in. the winds are going to kick up in the north bay hills. a wind advisory goes up tonight through sunday morning. gusts up to 50 miles an hour. frost advisory for some of our inland valleys and hills. tomorrow morning, as temperatures are going to drop, th

and sandhya patel is tracking that right now and has more details. sandhya.> and karina and dan, let's take a look at first the current conditions and then we'll talk about the air quality. so it is 51 degrees. relative humidity is up there 81%. they do have some fog around. their winds are fortunately light. but the problem is some of this is kind of impacting the air quality. air now is the official reporting agency. watsonville. santa cruz, swanton area nearby all moderate. but when you look at purple air, this is the unofficial reporting station has more sensors. you can see some areas are poor to unhealthy. so definitely avoid exposure if you can. the winds will remain light tonight overnight. they picp going into tomorrow morning and switch direction. that could push smoke into other areas as well. area of low pressure in control of our weather that drove those temperatures down today as it brought in the marine layer. so we do have the fog right near the coast right now, and the temperatures are responding to the marine influence anywhere from a couple

and let's go to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. obviously, we've been watching these dangerous conditions unfold down south for weeks now. southern california going to get a break anytime soon. >> they will indeed, dan, and that will begin tomorrow afternoon. so encouraging news. but right now that hughes fire is still up there. over 10,000 acres, 36% contained, and it is still very dry there. and gusty northeasterly winds to 39 miles an hour. that's the gusts. relative humidity is 7% as we take a look here. red flag warnings going until 10 a.m. tomorrow. so we are looking at gusty winds, low humidity, critical fire weather conditions, continuing for several more hours. browns canyon 45 mile an hour wind gusts right now. camp 939. as you will notice, those winds will remain high until after 10 a.m. then they start to drop off. one of the biggest issues with southern california has been the fact that the drought has intensified. it has expanded now a third of the state, which is focused a lot of it on southern california, is in seve

let's go over to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel for a first look at the forecast. sandhya. yeah. >> dan, you know what i'm going to show you is what that storm is doing up in the mountains. this is our prettiest picture from zephyr cove. you are seeing the snowflakes coming down, and the snow has just been piling up. looking at live doppler seven, you will notice that the sierra has been seeing that snow steadily increasing throughout the day. there have been thunderstorms in northern california. we've seen our share of rain. the first tornado of the season of this year at least, was reported in northern california. we'll talk about that later on. but the next system is sending us big waves. we've already seen those waves increasing. here's a live view from our santa cruz camera. watch out because it is dangerous. beach conditions. high surf advisory until 3 a.m. sunday. current wave heights anywhere between four feet at monterey bay to 12ft point. arena breakers 18 to 25ft means it's going to be dangerous to swim or surf. we have a beach. hazards for the northern m

meteorologist sandhya patel is here. with the current conditions and the red flag warning now in effect. sandhya. >> that's right. dan and ama, that area is under a red flag warning right now. so let's take a look at the conditions near the auto fire. it is 57 degrees. look at the relative humidity. it is so low 15%. easterly wind at 13. the gusts have been asnd high as 33 miles an hour. looking at the hourly forecast for that region, the windy conditions are going to persist. winds are going to ramp up as we head towards the overnight hours into tomorrow morning, so hopefully the crews can continue to gain ground. there are multiple fires still burning in southern california. palisades fire over 23,000 acres. this is a particularly dangerous situation. red flag warning gusts 45 to 70 miles an hour. relative humidity 8 to 15%. and that red flag warning until wednesday night. this is something that doesn't get issued very often. this is the fourth time it's been issued in the last three months for southern california. it i

abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here with a look at that. >> j.r. they have had no winter in southern california and the drought will reflect that. with severe drought conditions in southern california. let's first talk about the fires. the kenneth fire is the newest fire that has broken out near calabasas. multiple wildfires, strong, gusty santa ana winds. the last couple of days have not helped the situation. while they're not as strong right now, the gusts in southern california have been between 65 and 74 miles an hour. i just looked at the latest numbers. right now you have 38 at camp. 935 malibu. as we go, hour by hour, those gusty offshore winds will continue well into the night and pick up at times going into tomorrow morning, we have gusty winds. you're looking at 37 simi valley. those downsloping winds go on into friday morning. and then friday afternoon a wind shift, onshore winds coming off the ocean, transporting higher humidity into the area, which should help the firefighters temporarily. red flag warnings until 6 p.m. tomorrow. moder

let's bring in abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya, there is a red flag warning, right? >> that's right. and dan and ama, that red flag warning has been extended until friday morning. so let me show you a live picture once again from that hughes fire that is burning, you can see that the fire is starting to move uphill. the winds are pushing the flames. let me show you kind of to give you a little more perspective as to where it is. it is just north of santa clarita, 9400 acres. it is dry and gusty right now, 52 degrees. look at the relative humidity, 7%. and those winds are out of the northeast, gusting to 35 miles an hour, drying out the atmosphere even more so the red flag warning until 10 a.m. friday. gusty winds, very low humidity. you combine that with wind advisories and warnings that are up. and this is just going to be dangerous situation. and it's an advisory until 10 p.m. tonight. it becomes a warning from 10 p.m. tonight going into 2 p.m. thursday, looking at some of the other wind reports from the region, corral ca

and abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel has been tracking that for us. sandhya. yeah. >> and ama and dan, it's all the wrong ingredients coming together to raise the fire. danger to extreme. let's talk about that red flag. warning. it is a particularly dangerous situation. red flag warning for tomorrow. it is up right now, but it will be up tomorrow. in that form. winds will ramp up again. low humidity, very critically dry fuels. as you know, they have had very little rain down south. and here is the setup. high pressure over the pacific. low pressure southwest of los angeles. the winds funneling from the high to the low and then picking up speed as they descend the mountains head towards the ocean. so it's a strong santa ana winds and extreme fire danger that is ahead. as we take a look at the winds, hour by hour, 34 miles an hour at simi valley at midnight. notice those winds coming up to 43 miles an hour. 7 a.m. still gusty. santa clarita 37, lang 38. and it's really that pattern that continues into the afternoon and the evening hours. winds have really calmed

meteorologist sandhya patel is here with the forecast and the real trick. the problem here, sandhya. the wind. >> yeah, and the wind is not going to let up anytime soon. it is a ferocious wind. its extreme down there. dan, let me show you a live picture from our sister station down from southern california. and as you may already know, these fires tend to create their own weather conditions. so that is another thing that the firefighters are going to have to battle. let's take a look at the wind gusts right now. you will notice malibu hills 83 miles an hour. altadena 40. malibu vista 40. 54 castro peak. it is going to be a long night ahead. you have very, very dry conditions. life threatening situation unfolding. so high pressure has been building in behind the departing trough, which is now pushing into the desert southwest. we're basically sandwiched in between. and so those winds are really just fueling those fires. keep in mind, southern california has had very little rain. we're in the middle of winter here, and the windy, dry pattern is not helping an

let's bring in abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. yeah, sandhya, the weather obviously a huge factor in this firefight with the winds. >> and you said earlier really la so far has seen no winter. >> that's correct. and dan and jr that's been part of the major problem with this area and why the fires have been so explosive. so let's talk about rainfall and where they stand. los angeles has seen three hundredths of an inch of rain 1% of average. san diego only 14 hundredths. that's 4%. you can clearly see san francisco above average, along with redding at 146% of normal. so of course, you see scenes like these with a new fire burning near calabasas, the kenneth fire. this is going to continue to be a problem as moderate to strong santa ana winds will continue. so now we have the five fires burning. the latest one is near calabasas as i mentioned. look at the winds at this hour. castro peak, 38 miles an hour. browns canyon 37, camp nine. the same thing. we go hour by hour and those winds will remain gusty. it dries out the atmosphere eve

abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is tracking the level one storm on the way tomorrow. >> yeah, we've had weeks without a single storm, and now they're just lining up. sandhya. >> yeah, i mean, it's exactly what we were looking for, julian. and we wanted storm after storm to soak the bay area and deliver what we need in winter. and it's coming starting tomorrow. so let's look at live doppler seven. we have a level one for friday, a level two for saturday, and an atmospheric river on saturday that is set to soak the bay area. let's take a look at what you can expect. there is a flood watch that's going up tomorrow afternoon until sunday night. flooding is possible on roadways, small streams and creeks, especially with the intensity of the rain picking up. not so much tomorrow. it starts out with light to moderate rain during the morning hours, and then we see scattered showers and then more rain coming through and then downpours on saturday. that's when the concern is coming in. when you look over the next seven days, rainfall will measure in inches here in the bay area, over a

. >> so let's get to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel with a closer look at the conditions in southern california. sandhya. >> yeah, they're still facing dangerous fire weather conditions. let's take a look at the latest fire. the hughes fire. that is one of the larger ones. over 10,000 acres. but as you just mentioned, containment has increased to 36%. it is still gusty in this area right now out of the east northeast to 38 miles an hour. single digit humidity, which is part of the concern. the red flag warning is going until 10 a.m. tomorrow. those gusty winds, low humidity, and of course, the drought that they're dealing with is part of the problem now. wind gusts in southern california have been anywhere between 75 and even 84 miles an hour down towards san diego county, even close to 90 miles an hour earlier in the day. as we look at the current winds, browns canyon 55 camp 952 going hour by hour. the winds are going to slowly continue to decrease into the night going into tomorrow. still remaining gusty. and then the fire danger will come down as those winds subside. t
